Jolfa
Is it worth learning to drive? Definitely, I can't be without my car, my life ends everytime it breaks and I can't get places I want to be!My first car was a 1.3 MK2 Golf, cost me £1200ish to insure with a provisional licence For a first car get something small, cheap and shit, you'll only ruin it anyway and it'll cost you less to run/insure/tax etc. Something like an old Fiesta or Metro should fit the bill, don't piss money away into your first car, wait until you've got some experience under your belt & can actually drive and you can afford something nice
Ciguena_dreamer
I started driving in a Mk3 Vw Polo, my insurance was just over £1000 fully comp but I had 1 years no claims from my moped. I had dished wheels for it and was about to buy springs but I crashed her into a post going into college

Worth the wait in my opinion.
craigjames
My first car was a '92 Mini Cooper S+, lovely little car, fun to drive, looked awesome and wasn't overly exspensive to insure either. Oh and it was rust free
manuel
mk1 astra 1.3l - oh so many years ago. And like everyone has said, get something shit until you grow up a bit - I stuffed mine into a hedge driving like a loony...find something dirt cheap to buy and insure, then bash it about with bikes/bad driving like you dont care ... Pashley26
Go get yourself a 6 series BMW, you'll learn how not to drive pretty quick Nahhh seriously now, my first ever car was a Mk1 Fiesta. Classic insurance was silly cheap, a 1100 X Flow is as reliable as you'll ever get and everything on them is cheap and simple I only had mine for a couple of weeks, but it was bloody good !Then when you get good you can put a 1600 X Flow in it and go a bit faster Edited November 12, 2009 by Pashley26
MadManMike
I only had mine for a couple of weeks, but it was bloody good !Longer than you keep most cars then

Fishy
I had an SJ for my first car, it was unreliable, old, cold, wet, noisy and smelt of smoke. I loved it.
LukasMcNeal
Its not worth modifying until a couple of years as it adds on to the insurance as you have to declare the mods.

Ash-Kennard
get a seat ibiza, mk2 or 3. they arent the stereotypical kiddy car, got 1.4 engines so you will be faster than your mate and the insurance will be cheapish. and, electric windows, central locking, power steering and power assisted braking

Tony Harrison
Buy the cheapest. After all, you're most likely going to write it off two weeks after you pass.

Tomm
The only way they would find out is if you crash and the police get involved.... correct me if im wrong.Which you pretty much always have to do. My friend got into a lot of shit for crashing at low speed into a fence post on a country lane. Minimal damage so he didn't stop. Next thing he knew about it was a court summons for criminal damage, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident

You are an idiot. The reason insurance is so high is because of shit like that. You'll complain insurance is horribly expensive and then you'll do exactly the thing that increases it.Buy something cheap, shit and slow. Do it and then after a year you'll open up a world of interesting cars.that is my advice whether you take it or not.oh and cost.1st car was a Clio 1.2 - £650 TPFT bought for £600. haydon_peter
My first car was a beast!Red 3 door Peugeot 106 Kid, 4 speed, 954cc It cost me about £1k from a dealer and the Insurance was something crazy like £1500 TPFT but when I did pass plus it nearly halved. This was 5 years ago though.
