Scott Gibbs
as it says on the tin, whats a good freeride bike for around £1500-£1800 something thats around 5-7 inches of travel and the more extreme end of the scale more big drops and thrashin rather than all mountain/ light freeride. Fixed Pants™
http://www.silverfish-uk.com/products/1019...hp?r=1m1d0b0s46Heard hot things about these... http://www.freeborn.co.uk/shop/bikes/full-...ci-2009-ollie-1And my friend has one of the older ones of them and it's lush. Much nicer spec than the off the peg one though.Plenty out there, freeride/dh is my thing but i'm not so up to date on them at the moment... Scott Gibbs
the mondraker looks sick! I really like that. The other bike i was looking at was the mongoose black diamond single. Dunno much about them either. I dont know much about modern full sus bikes i only ever owned 1 DH bike i had was a azonic eliminator back in 2002! N.Wood
Could you go second hand? Could get something pretty baller for £1500 second hand. Look on southerndownhill, occasionally stuff on singletrack too.
Tomm
I think these look pretty nice:http://scottusa.com/gb_en/product/7937/44811/voltage_fr_20Pretty much every brand has a 6-7" freeride bike in their lineup. Pick one I always liked the Spesh SX Trail.http://www.specialized.com/gb/en/bc/SBCBkM...mp;menuItemId=

Fixed Pants™
Tomm, Voltage, good suggestion. That looks awesome.Bit misleading though with the whole adjustment though, they're saying you have to buy new forks and shock if you wanna change geo. How about fit it with some u turn forks and 1 shock with a few different holes?
Scott Gibbs
does seem a little odd come to think of it. But i would just have it in 7" and leave it at that. Looks really nice in green and white.
Tomm
Bit misleading though with the whole adjustment though, they're saying you have to buy new forks and shock if you wanna change geo.Yeah I know, weird I haven't ridden one and I'm not convinced they'd actually be any good - it's just a kona-style single linkage really, and any bike that has geometry made to go from 135mm to 180mm travel has to compromise somewhere. Still, they do look pretty.

You interested?
Scott Gibbs
cheers for the heads up mate but i dont have the cash at the moment thats why i was askin about new bike as i would be able to get finance!
RobinJI
You can change the travel on that scott just by moving the shock. That's why there's 3 different sets of wholes.
Matthew62
Kona Coiler, not the most sophisticated but damn good fun and a nice strong bike. I love mine to bits.Having said that i'm going for an Orange 5 next.Commecal 6. I'm not sure about the carbon rear end myself but a lot of people seem to like themThe trek range this year is looking pretty good.Specialised sx trail? I don't like it myseld as it feels like a cow but theres a few more options.
Scott Gibbs
yeah im not a fan of specialized's either. I do really like the mondraker fixed pants suggested. the scott looks REALLY nice, the kona stinky is nice too. I like the mongoose khyber too. Oh dear! But in the video on the website it talks about changing the i2i of the shock, along with the fork, for different travel variations.
haydon_peter
Commecal 6. I'm not sure about the carbon rear end myself but a lot of people seem to like themThey aren't all Carbon. They still make the Alu frames, you pay extra if you want a Carbon frame.
Tomm
They're also not really freeride bikes - more aggressive XC/All Mountain (urgh, I hate using those phrases but it kinda sums up what they're about). I wouldn't ride one if all I did was hucks/DH, they're too lightweight and the angles are completely wrong.
Matthew62
Yeah but they're more appropriate for UK riding though. The Coiler is pretty much freeride, its not much of an Xc'er, sure the commencal is a bit more all mountain but the 6 series is pretty beefy.Theres no point in having all that extra weight if in reality your not going to be doing massive riding, and they've all got around 160mm trvael so they're more than bouncy enough. Scott Gibbs
i dont really mind the extra weight i prefer the heavier duty bikes and also im goin to be moving to australia in the next 18 months so bigger terrain will then be available! I like the look of the mongoose pinn'r apprentice looks a good spec for the money. More DH than the khyber.

It's not even 1" more travel, and the angles are pretty much the same. Compared with a Coiler which is built like a tank, the Meta is flimsy by comparison. Likewise the Commie Supreme is the same amount of travel as a 666 but much beefier. It depends what you wanna ride. There's plenty of stuff even in the UK to justify a DH bike if that's the kind of riding you enjoy.
Scott Gibbs
more DH orintated i wont ride up the hill that im gunna blast down! So slacker angles would suit better. My brother in law is buyin a trek session 8 but i dont really want a pukka DH bike but i think it might have to be one. I've just had a look at the commenal supreme mini dh 2 that looks lovely does anyone know what there like?
