Chris (Khoie) Ellison
Anyone whos rode with me knows im having a stupidly annoying problem with my chain skipping (ridding up on the rear cog)I originally ran 16-12 with a tensile tensioner (the pretty one with gold jockey wheels! )Thought it may be due to chain wrap, which everyone agreed, even when asking at tartybikes.....BUT...new 18-14 and new chain, and its still skipping. Tensioners inline and tensioned fine? What could be causing it??? its a hand made frame and hanger, so could this affect it?? Has worked fine previously. Any inputs better than me smashing my shins and knee for the 100th time! Cheers.
MikeCottTrials
Cogs aren't bent in any way? What's the chain line like? Tried putting a stupid amount of lube on it? How tight is the chain at rest?
Clawz114
Seems unlikely to be the problem, but is the chain the correct pitch? It could still be the chain wrap.I have 18-16 and i use a Shimano Sora mech to keep my tension. I then put on an expensive second hand campagnolo mech and it was about half a cm (if that) lower, and the chain would just ride over the cog everytime i put hard pressure on the pedals. Chris (Khoie) Ellison
The cogs n chain are all brand new, and correct pitch. I ordered them at same time so Tartybikes Advised best chain to get for my set up.The wrap around is pretty much as much as you can get, ill put a pic up in a second. Hava gander see what you think.Cheers for help so far though! Edited November 7, 2009 by Chris (Khoie) Ellison
Chris (Khoie) Ellison
Bump. Pic added, Any ideas anyone??Cheers
monkeyseemonkeydo
How old's the tensioner? Are the teeth of the jockey wheels a bit deformed? Other than that you might just need to tweak the alignment of the tensioner. Even if it's sitting perfectly at rest it may not be when you put a load of torque through the system. Chris (Khoie) Ellison
Tensioners brand new as well... Good thinking though I'll hava gander at that see how much plays in it.Cheers
3dd
What hub is it? Maybe it is worn driver bearing causing it if it is a freehub, so the driveshell just deforms whenever you put presure.
Chris (Khoie) Ellison
Its a hope pro 2, its pretty much new? So i doubt it'd be that.... The only thing i can think is if the jockey wheel is too close to the rear cog? Would that affect it?
ding_dong
i had this problem when i built my 24" up turns out id snapped 2 springs in my proII so check that? it ran fine when i was just pedaling, as soon as i put sum preasure on it to gap or whtever it just skipped. Chris (Khoie) Ellison
I wondered if it could have been that as well, But it seems I've got the opposite problem. It skips when peddaling, not while kicking? Still baffling me...first dryish day in ages so I'm going go give it a ride see if I can suss anything out? Dan Clark
Could it just be the new chain and cassette sprocket haven't bedded in together yet?If you can't find the problem, you can always swap some bits around with my bike to try narrow it down, try my rear wheel etc.
