Technical Tyre Information

We got a Schwalbe Technical Information brochue type thing through with an order a while back (work in a bike shop) and i just found a PDF of it on their website. Thought id post up the link to it, as i spent a good while reading through it and i found it very interesting.

In particular it explains why a wide tyre actually rolls better than a narrow tyre (page 15), which at first doesnt seem right, but its true.

Also;

"Even in wet conditions, on a normal, smooth road, a slick tire actually provides better grip than a tire with a tread"

http://www.schwalbe.co.uk/pdf/techinfo.pdf

Interesting stuff!

I agree - that was very interesting, especially about rolling. 200km/h for aquaplanning? I swear I ride faster that that with my 18-15 ratio :giggle:

Although prety much every MTB tyre is flipped around the other dirrection for trials use, I am talking about 26" tyres. This makes a big loss on the grip when braking while going forwards on both wheels, just because the threads are pointing the other direction. But it helps to grip the wall with the back wheel. There is loss of grip in anyway you put it, isn't it? So dont people use tyres that have sqare thread in 26" trials but it is very popular in 20"? Confused! :S
