kevtim
Ok i decided to go single speed and i spent a small fortune to do so... I purchased the following:V!Z Alloy Lock ring (didn't fit when tightened)Trialtech spacers (had to hammer on, then change with 24/7 spacers at my local bike shop)Trialtech Lite SprocketTNN (steel) chain ring and bash plate Trialtech Lite Z610 HX 3/32 chainTensile single speed sprung chain tensionerFirstly i went to put my trialtech spacers and sprocket on. I had to hammer the spacers on because they were to small but the sprocket went on no problem? After i sorted that out i tightened the V!Z lockring. I fitted the TNN bash ring/chainring to my middleburns with no problems. I then put the Tensile chain tensioner on and made the chain the right length. I set it all up, was spot on with alinement and everything spun freely. I mounted the bike and went to hop to the back wheel, CRACK! I thought id instantly broke something but it was just the chain slipping. I messed about with the set up for a few hours but every time i add any kind of pressure the chain skips and makes a nasty cracking sound the likes of which when changing gear. I took it apart and headed to my bike shop, explained what was happening and left it with them. I went to pick it up today and they told they had to put 24/7 spacers on because they didn't want to hammer the trialtech ones and that everything is lined up as sweet as a nut but the chain keeps slipping. They said the only thing they think it could be is that one of the components isn't compatible with another, they were pretty mystified. It cost me £30 in labor charges and i still don't have a ridable bike so im very flustrated. Am i missing something? I just don't understand what is happening... Also i told them to check my hub etc anything it could be but all is A OK and it was all working fine before i fitted the new parts. Thanks all for reading my short essay here Kev
AdamR28
Yo Kev,Sounds like most/all of those parts have come from us... seems a REALLY strange issue, certainly not heard of compatibility problems with those parts before.Any chance you could email over a few fairly detailed pics of your setup and I'll take a look?Which rear hub do you have?CheersAdam
forteh
Did you get the long arm or short arm tensile tensioner? Im not sure what the ramifications are but I think the short arm one isnt compatible with smaller sprockets, worth a chat to tarty about it There has also been instances of brand new chains and sprockets skipping, although Ive not experienced it with the trialtech sprockets and the chain. The tart beat me to it! Revolver
This is the third set of trialtech spacers I've heard of not fitting. One of those was mine

AdamR28
This is the third set of trialtech spacers I've heard of not fitting. One of those was mine They fit on most hubs, but some (especially with burrs from old sprockes) can cause problems, this issue is listed on our site.Got your email, cheers, replying now, it's just a simple chain tensioner setup issue, 5 mins to fix
forteh
I have had a brand new chain skip on brand new sprockets (trialtech) before, both 1/2" pitch so shouldnt be a problem but it did skip, switched to the kmc Z610 (same as the trialtech) and smooth as butter since. Cant understand how its skipping on the rear sprocket given the components though
kevtim
Ok, with some advice from tarty i've managed to sort it! Cheers Adam! Just needed to make sure the chain wrapped around the sprocket a full 180 degrees. I did have to remove the pin on the tensioner arm completely and saw down the little aluminium sleeve bit that you use to attach it to the frame. It has proven a little temperamental to set up without the play in the hanger arm but at least it works Cheers, cheersKev
