raz
Hi Folks,I'm building up my first trials bike from 2nd hand gear, but the fork I have has too short a steerer to put spacers on, and thus the handlebars are very low with my current MTB stem. The only stems I can find with a large angle are mod stems- can I use one? Are they designed for 11/8 steerers?Cheers,Raz
Revolver
You should be able to find a stock stem with a better angle. If you put a high stem on it makes the BB feel lower.

Nic84echo
Hi RazTheres no reason you couldn't use the stem off a mod (pretty much everythings 1 1/8" size wise these days), but they tend to be longer as well as giving more rise which may stretch your riding postion a bit more than you'll want.Perhaps another solution would be bars with a slightly higher rise? I am ze best
Theres no reason why you cant its just that look at the length differences and then you will the that your bike will be well short.

raz
OK, thanks for all the advice. I found a 90mm System Ex stem with 35' rise for reasonable price, should fit. BTW, do all trials frames only come in one size?

BTW, do all trials frames only come in one size?Lots of frames come in a "short" and "long" option, which frame in particular are you thinking of?A 90mm stem with that steep an angle will probably be a tad short on a stock bike - whilst you'll gain the extra height you require you may find that you don't have enough forward reach on the stem

The frame is a Mission Reefer, I got it 2nd hand and I'm not sure of the size. I'm 6'2, and I feel my weight is too far forward at present, but that's prob got to do with the bars being so low.
