Marta And Square Taper :/

Heya, recently got a new lever blade fitted on the Marta. First few days it felt amazing but since then each time i go to ride it feels weaker, done a quick bleed to pump any air out and refill resivour etc but its still slack.

Secondly, my left hand crank kept coming loose so I bought both a new BB and a new crank arm, still exactly the same problem, no matter how tight i do it up it will come loose and be able to wobble left and right within 20yd's or so, whats up with that?

Can anyone please help me with these issues? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I had a similar crank arm problem with a left middleburn crank, you might have too long a bolt in your crank arm and its just going tight due to bottoming out in the bb so not clamping the arm to the bb. Try putting some washers between the head of the bolt and the crank arm and see if that makes any difference. Might be something else but that's the only problem i've ever had.

And as far as the marta, have you checked for leaks and any loose fittings? It may just be coincidence a fitting has come loose 2 days after you fitted your lever.

Thanks for the bolt idea, will look into it. For the Marta after a rebleed I tested it and the lever felt exactly the same, there was the usually ammount of weeping from the resivoir but its not actually leaking, just the smallest little drop.

After the bleed it should feel better regardless of a leak (untill it pisses out again). Recently cleaned the pads + rotor but again... Problem is in the lever feeling slack.

Is the brake set up correctly at the calliper? If it's too far over one side it'll flex the rotor giving a spongy lever effect.

If you've got oil on the pads, you can't just clean it off as the oil soaks into the pad very easily. You need new pads.

The lever reach adjustment screw will tighten the lever up, you said it didn't do anything, but it should do, is something broke?

Apart from that, there is still air in the system, even though you've bled it there can still be air in the system. I'd follow the instructions on Magura.de or any instructional videos around the internet and do it again.

Don't ever pull the brake when it's upside down either, and don't pull it when the wheel isn't in. If you've done this, it could affect the performance and you'll need a re-bleed.

With your cranks. It's likely to be the crank bolt.

For the crank bolt, jam some loctite in there, that should sort it. (thats if it is a problem with the threads) if not, try Dandadude's idea, that should work if its a clamping problem :)

The loctite won't do a thing. It's not worth it.

If he's got a new left hand crank and new bottom bracket and it's coming loose after 20yards, it won't need thread lock, there's more too it than that. So I wouldn't advise forking out on any thread lock.

New bolt = sorted.

you dont grease square taper splines/cranks on the interface >.<

:giggle:  and who told you that! You need to put grease on there just like any interface that you don't want to get stuck together forever. If you have ever had to cut a crank arm off an old bike to replace the bottom bracket you will know what I mean.
