Only a CPU Cooler? Isnt that just the same asif it was fan cooled?
Well one is a heatsink and fan that cools via air. The other is a heatsink, fan, radiator, pump and pipe system full of liquid.

It does say it comes pre-bled and ready to fit but I personally don't see the problem with air cooling. By getting that water CPU cooler you are only removing one fan from the system, and as long as you get a fan that is 4pin and PWM controlled you are barely going to be able to hear it anyway!

If you are going to heavily over clock the CPU the water cooling would be a good idea but I am assuming you are not going to be going crazy with over clocking. As long as you get a nice Heatsink and fan and have good airflow through the case air cooling will be fine even with some over clocking.

Effectively though you are saying it is better, it will make less noise and it will make it cooler, comes prebled so why get a fan over this?

Much for the same reason I'd look down on someone who bought race spec rims+tyres for their daily driver

Thank you for your input, but it surely it work's abit differently? It will make my CPU Cooler and less quiet, therefore benefitting in more than 1 way.

Also, if you do recommend me getting a fan, which one would it be?

Case cooling, go positive air pressure. Have a rear fan expelling air with all other fans sucking air in. Have a read up on it, bloody effective.

For anyone wanting dust filters, I suggest you buying these... Quiet PC. They are magnetic so just stick to the side of the case, take no time to clean and look good since they don't poke out loads. Got 2 of the 140mm's on mine in preparation for the 140mm fans when I get some.

Placed my order now, Thanks guys, went for the i7 920, ATi 5870, basically what i posted above.. just gotta wait for its arrival which i assume will be quite long as i had to pre-order the GFX card.

Thank's for the help i really appreciate it, as you can tell i would have ordered all the wrong things and not as good spec for my money.

Oh man if I had to money I would build another one right now, this machine I built last year already looks kinda poo comapred to todays bits!

Ahhh, but its an endless cycle. It's pretty much certain that you'll build a machine and a month later some immense graphics card or processor will appear out the blue - pretty much why I buy computer magazines so you stay ahead of the market and try to know the best time to start a build.

There isn't a best time to start a build really... unless somehow say nvidia or ati is closing down and they start selling all their products at stupidly low prices haha.

But yeah, when I first got my GTX260 it was just under £200, after 2 months if I remember correctly they were going for £150 and now about £125 at some places. I don't think I'll be upgrading my system anytime soon though :P one being I don't have the money and 2 I can still run recent games on high settings hehe :)

I was a custom PC subscriber. Cancelled it after 2 years though as the internet is just as good at finding out information.

I bought a 140w AMD 965 BE, which was the ultimate best AMD processor a month or so ago. Now there is a 975 125w BE on the horizon, which should make the 4ghz holy grail.

Mine's topped out at 3.8ghz. :(

Although, at 3.8ghz it's very fast, and the new 6 cores are coming in Q1 next year....

Meh, I built my current rig a few months ago. About a few months before HD costs fell through the roof and I can buy 1TB for the price I bought my 500GB drive :/

Sweet! Did you get the CPU cooler seated nicely and the cables all well managed?

A good test to check how well the CPU seated is to watch the temps and see what the difference is between the highest and lowest core temp under load.

You going to overclock it straight away or get it all "bedded in" first?

Surprisingly often! (I'm only at 3.8ghz, but close enough. :P)

Well not every core, but I routinely max out one core, like when converting videos or using programs that only use one core. Anything that takes a while to complete basically, if it's a big task it will use the full speed of the core.

Or at least that's how I understand it, from watching mine I'll often see one core at 100% whilst another is below 20%.

EDIT: I was just watching mine becuase you mentioned it, core 2 spiked to 100% whilst core 4 spiked to about 30%, and core 1 and 3 stayed at 0%.
