monkeyseemonkeydo
That's the usual way of guestimating whether a gap is doable static or not.
MikeCottTrials
I'm not sure about you guys but I can jump a lot further than I can gap. kind of annoying
HarriLye
most of the good trial riders are very flexible..and me, well im the complete opposite to flexible, i think that is why i cant pedal hop that far, i just dont have the spring some people do :L
gage-mann
well when you jump as far as you can on your feet you look to where your gonna land around, if you gap on your bike your gonna look where abouts you know you'll land, maybe being able to jump further this may help gapping on a bike as the look and landing shizz is kinda the same part from your on a bike like the method of springing to jump could improve your gappin aswell as looking at something and thinking it's do-able? basher
its not strictly a true rule really as in doing it on a bike isn't all about power, technique plays a big role where as its not going to as much in doing it on your feet
snoolax
I think u cant really compare jumping with physical body and gapping with a bike. Its almost totally different as gapping on bike requires more pulling an technique combination than just pure action reaction force when u are jumping physically on the ground.. hoots man
i tried to jump a gap on foot and nearly f*!$% my ankle not making it, then i gaped it on my bike. still laugh about it now. what a tool.
padarik
Works for me! Can gap bigger then i can jump? Unless its a mental thing??
bikeperson45
I can jump way further without my bike, but I'm pretty good at jumping. I haven't been riding that long so I'm still working on my technique to get the distance, then I'll think about my springiness
1handedluke
i'd rather hop onto a rail on my bike then with my feet Edited October 24, 2009 by 1handedluke
MikeCottTrials
i'd rather hop onto a rail on my bike then with my feet Thats a given, you can't break your ankles as easily
PaRtZ
this is an interesting theory. But I think people are missing out a few things in their answers. Firstly no one has mentioned bike weight or geometry, which to me is a crucial thing. Also are you maximising your leg muscle power through jumping or turning the cranks? etc etc.Id post my thoughts but im too tired. I think I can gap further than jump
Deonn h
Not true, lol depends on ability of the rider.
Captain Scarlet
I've always thought of something like that, imagine that your front wheel is yours hands, and rear wheel is your feet.Going by that, I'm much more confident and comfortable on my bike, but things like side to rear I'd do much bigger than if I did it without my bike static without using my hands. Alex@Flawless Bikes
I think its down to technique really, just remember you have been walking/jumping a hell of a lot longer then you have been riding. If you have been riding for say 20 year, I reckon you could gap as far as you could jump just look at the pro rider who have been riding for ages.
