chimpanzyyyy
Oh, I'll look forward to that If you watch some of the really early UFC stuff, is that where you can see some really distinct styles of martial arts facing off? A bit before people were properly mixing it up, maybe? as Leon as said some are pretty bad because of the crappy cardio and bad style match up there was some good old fights aswell what you have to keep in mind aswell is that the fighters winning the fights at tha period were mainly wrestlers and bjj guys so most of the fights---> on the ground strikers were beaten to pulp most of the times actually, it took a few ufc events to see some good strickers who did good thanks to the takedown defense! from the first ufc event tille the last one (164 I think) you have a lot of good fights to watch check out the Pride fights aswell different rules (you can soccer kick and stomp peolpe in the face when they re on the floor) and it's in a ring instead of a cage shogun, cro cop, fedor, rampage etc all good fighters Pretty much, but there was no real conditioning/fitness back then, apart from Vitor it was nowhere near todays level (he obviously had some help, no one looks like that at 19) People weren't well rounded, the Gracies (Brazilian Jiu jitsu) couldn't really strike for shit, and a lot of strikers had no ground game, the wrestlers couldn't do much unless they got on top of you. Everyone has a bit of everything these days. Look up some of Vitor Belforts old ufc fights. lol yeah Vitor is crazy I watched the first Machida-Shogun fight. I totally get why the crowd was booing. They seemed a fairly even match but Shogun's plan to kick Machida in the legs worked well. Machida has a bad reputation actually he likes to run a lot to frustrate his opponent, and counter strike them when they make a mistake that's not a good way to win a crowd as opposed to the diaz or matt brown who just goes berzerk every fights I watched the Machida-Couture fight, that was good! What a kick! It was cool to see Randy Couture doing his thing too, I'll have to check out some of his other fights. Couture is cool, tough dude

It's a good way to win fights though. I was curious about Wing Chun and what it's like in this situation so I found a video and yeah, he was up against a Judo guy and he... well, you'd think he'd know the guy was a Judo man so he'd figure out how to handle it - kick him in the head when he lunges or something - but no, he just gets taken down, and beat in the face. Revolver
Try the kickboxing. I'm sure if they have kickboxing that there'll be someone around to teach grappling. I really look forward to getting to grips with the more hands-on stuff in Karate. It's definitely present, I've learnt a few little bits already. pjl1984
Did he not have a tittle shot against ben henderson at some point not to long ago?
chimpanzyyyy
yes and he totally lost the fight Benson Henderson wasn't able to finish him but was just stronger than him in the grappling exchanges, plus he low kicked him to death and nate wasn't landing anything dangerous on him Nate got brutally koed by Josh Thomson aswell at that fight, Nate looked dangerous to Josh but Josh had a pretty efficient gameplan and it worked great first ever to knock out N Diaz edit: Josh Thomson is facing Benson next I m so excited about this fight Also I m happy it's Benson and not Pettis Pettis kicks are so nasty, I wasn't sure how Josh would have survived I really like Josh, I just hope he has a few good fights before retiring edit2: Pettis is a butcher with those kicks Edited December 3, 2013 by chimpanzyyyy
pjl1984
Should be a good fight Benson has a lot to prove after loosing the belt and im sure he will want to get back in contention as soon as possible. But to me there are a lot of good fighters in that division so it could be anyone who gets the next shot
chimpanzyyyy
lots of talent for sure in Lightweight! Benson is really strong, but he has a way to fight that usually bores people personally I like him, but I have the feeling he has pretty poor boxing skills Pettis is crazy good, and "theoretically" the best in the division, but he gets hurt at the gym so many times, I m not even sure how he is gonna keep that belt and defend it Melendez is a very strong contender, amazing boxing and tough as f... plus lots are saying he did beat Benson Thomspon could have been a champ a few years earlier his fights with melendez are legendary and proves how solid he is. Not sure how far he can go in the division though, because of his age also, it would be epic to see Michael Chandler and Eddie alvarez joining the UFC to be fair, Chandler is my fav lightweight ever. Such an animal! and then, can you imagine, Jose aldo moves up to lightweight! what would happen?
