Need Help With My Mac

I have little experience with networking with Macs, but...

Have you tried searching with another laptop, phone or something that connect to Wifi?

If not, one think to check is that the router is set to broadcast - which you need to go to the settings for. You need a patch cable (yellow ethernet cable) and connect to the router. When (or if) connect to it, you need to enter the settings.

As default, these are usually 192.168.0.1 or maybe 10.0.0.1 (make of router will sometimes vary this). Within windows you can check the connection settings and look for the Default Gateway, this will be the IP address of your router...not sure how you will find this on a mac.

When you have it, assuming your router has web configuation (90% do these days), you need to open up your web browser and type;

http://<YOUR ROUTER ADDRESS>

For example,

http://192.168.0.1

or

http://10.0.0.1

It will then (maybe) ask for a username and password. These are sometimes set by the ISP and will be detailed in your manual/paperword when you signed up, failing that, and assuming you haven't changed these, it'll be set for the default username/password.

A google search of your router make/model will reveal this....usually its just;

Username: admin

Password: password

When you're in there, you'll have a load of options. You need to search for something like 'Broadcast options' or 'Broadcast' within the 'general' or 'security' options.

Thats probably the simplest, most probably cause to check. Failing that I'd recommend testing the connection with another device. If that picks it up and successfully connects, you can rule out a network issue...then its your Mac thats the problem.

Excuse my ignorance with Macs; I can tell you what to check, but I couldn't tell you how to do it.
