tkD
Hey guys and girls, I need to remove my crank arms so I can tighten my bottom bracket. I'm struggling like hell to get them off, any tips? I'm trying to stay away from booting them! Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers. Revolver
Use a crank extractor.Make sure it's a good one.Screw the part that goes into the crank in as tightly as you can.Use leverage on the other part if necessary.

StevenJJ
What type of cranks are they? Because I think theres two types of crank extractor for ISIS and square taper?
ogre
theres an adapter that comes with any decent extractor, your best spending a bit more to make sure you get an isis and square taper fitting one so you don't have to buy 2ce

snoolax
sorry to hitch on this topic a little, whats the different between a ISIS crank and a normal crank?
hdmackay
sorry to hitch on this topic a little, whats the different between a ISIS crank and a normal crank?A 'normal crank' is called Square Taper.WEll... I don't know the technical differences however I do know that ISIS are alot better.Basically, ISIS are stronger, lighter, they don't flex as much, it is really expensive though.Square Taper is weaker, heavier, flexier but it's nice and cheap:)I've been running Square Taper ever since I started trials and it's been fine. Token
Basically you're just less likely to round a ISIS taper off because the load can be distributed better over the larger surface area as opposed to a Square taper.
MikeCottTrials
every square taped crank I've ever used has been destroy within a few rides Edited October 19, 2009 by MikeCottTrials
TROYston
You say Taper is heavier but the ViZ. weighed less than the <£50 isis bottom brackets. But tarty do not stock them anymore .
