Design Of A New Bike

That is really nice!Is this going to be a steel frame?Have you measured everything on this?I mean ,except the WB, CS and BB RISE, the tubes, stem, fork etc.

I always wanted to sketch my own frame, but I don't know how the parts should be designed to last...(I'm sure there are some standards for the parts too please tell me of I'm wrong)

Yeah everything has been measured up on it (except the diameter of the bb shell as I don't have my bike with me). Also I am not sure on tube what tube diameter I will use yet, hence the snap happy look, just leaving it open to redesigns.

If I do build it, it will most likely be made out of 4130.

Anybody got any suggestions on how to improve the design? I am thinking I might change the seat tube design to a vertical one with wings coming off on to the seat stays, what do you think?

Obviously i'm no expert, but it just looks as if all the force from the brake would by trying to snap the seat stays off as there's nothing really supporting them, other than where it'd be welded to the top tube.

There will be some horse shoe style supports on the top of the seatstay/toptube interface, but that is why I said about the wings, however I can't see that being a problem really, I mean most bikes are like that.

The dropouts should atleast be perfectly horizontal - as apposed to what you've drawn, looks like they point down which is random.

Needs a 'built in'/intergrated booster.

Thicker tubing (= bigger weld areas).

Pointless little tubes on the seat post. That area would be better if it looked more like the 04 Zoo's, Onza Zoot, Ozonys Canibal deisgn; where there are three tubes all branching outwards from the BB area upwards.

Perhaps have longer gussets to spread the stress out more?

Finally, the chainstay tubes shouldn't just weld onto the BB, a yoke of some sort should be in place for a stronger area.

Needs a 'built in'/intergrated booster. - already going to do

Thicker tubing (= bigger weld areas). - Need to do some research on tubing first before deciding on the thickness

Perhaps have longer gussets to spread the stress out more? - I like this idea, how long should I have them though as I was unsure on this?

Finally, the chainstay tubes shouldn't just weld onto the BB, a yoke of some sort should be in place for a stronger area. - I know

Check out: Google Sketch Up, I use it for my Carpentry and Architecture work, it's rather good, you'll get full measurements and 3 dimensional views of it. It's pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. Looks good dude.
