Flex In Rear Hs33

Lol, just lol.

Certainly would! As long as you don't get oil on the pads or disk, there great! Yeah the Hope Mono Trial is a perfect disk for the back! Pretty pricey though so it would be worth your while looking in FS topics etc.

Disks also mean:

You don't have to grind your rim, so your rim last much longer and you get to keep the coloured side walls so it looks good ;)

You only need to set them up once and if all bolts are tight it shouldn't move at all, so you don't need to re adjust it when you take your wheel on and off, and it can also make it easier to take your wheel on and off.

You can ride in the rain, as rain doesn't affect disks anywhere near as much as it does with a maggy.

And you wont have a loud brake that'll annoy the neighbours ;)

So? They don't work half as good as maggies.

Same with a maggy. You set it up once and your fine if you do it right. And also since my mates got his rear disc all he's been doing is fiddling with it trying to get it set up good but he never manages.

Grind and wet weather pads makes a maggy BETTER than a disc in all conditions.

to be honest, I like having a loud brake as it I find it reassuring and I know it works good. If I set up and my brake doesn't make a noise or makes a wierd noise, I know something is wrong.

PLUS...

Discs are STUPIDLY expensive. The Hope mono trial your on about... It's like £150 off Tarty or something, A maggy is £65. So you could get one and buy like 3 spare rims with the extra money if your that worry'd about grinds.

Discs make your wheel flex and generally feel shit.

At the lever they feel horrible. And you can't bleed them with water or anything. And they often feel flexy.

Ok as you already mentioned the rotor always gets f**ked and the pad contamination. But the rotor and pads seem to always contaminate. My mate has just gone double disc like two weeks ago and both his discs are now already contaminated. It's alot more hassle to fix than with a maggie aswell.

Maggies are soo much easier to set up.

Sooo much easier to bleed.

Finally, you can get your brake exactly how you want with maggies due to the super wide range of pads and the use of grinds or tar. You can get instant sharp biting brakes. Or if you want modulatable brakes that aren't instant. You can also change how flexy it is by using a booster or not.

And that's not me even thinking that hard. Just off the top of my head.

But hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

:P

your thick as f**k obviously and two proud to admit that a disk brake is better your one of those freaks that runs a smooth rim, skinny jeans so low everyone can see your crack, bald tyres and ques up in line to see how many times he can sidehop it or weather you can tuck some more :)

They clearly do work as good than maggys or no one would use them....

Yes, your mate is obviously shi*e at setting them up.

Wet weather pads and a grind may make it work just as good, but your still grinding your rim, which leads to a new rim a few more grinds down the line.....

Well that's very nice, but I was taking the piss when I said that bit.

Yes, disks are expensive, I did mention that, and I also mentioned second hand is a cheaper option, so no point in trying to prove me wrong on that bit.

If you have a GOOD wheel build, your wheel shouldn't flex that much at all from it, and anyway, if you buckle your rim with a maggy your fuc*ed if you don't have a spoke key cause it'll rub and annoy the tits off you.

Yeah, that's because you don't need to bleed them with water, there sharp enough with oil in, and if you have a good bleed they feel great at the leaver.

So this mate of yours cant set up a disk and has contaminated his pads and disk in 2 weeks? He blatantly doesn't know what he's doing, especially since he's only just turned double disk.

Disks aren't hard to bleed at all, you open the bleed nipple, take the reservoir cap off, pump old oil out and pour new oil in till no air bubbles are coming out the bleed nipple, WOW THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE.

And with every disk I've had, its been both sharp and modulated, so it can do all your tgs stuff, natty stuff, and street stuff like manuals etc.

And that's not me even thinking that hard. Just off the top of my head. ;)

its not an opinion thought your just being a blatent f**king idiot. that brown noses the tgs massive and thinks tar is god.

You really are a cunt. Just go home. And preferably die.

As above. Read what I said. Don't be a fanny.

At least you aint being a stuck up b*****d about it.

Well I (and loads of other people) don't think they work as well.

Hmm... Maybe so. But that means pretty much every single ride in Inverness is shit at setting up a disc then.

Well, I usually do carry a spoke key with me so i'm all good. :)

I've not felt any disc brake levers that have felt nice. They always feel sluggish to me.

I'm not having a go at you mate. Just saying my opinion. :):P

Those other two though. They are just f**king twats.

lol, i just thought that some people that would have sense would realise in a sport that relies on back brake hold and bite would realise that having a smooth rim is a good answer, you mate must be an idiot at settting it up. EVERY bike ive been on with a monotrial has worked amaazing, ten times better then my front maggie, ten times better then my front vee, have a go on some ones bike that can set it up propley them selves. when i felt sam olivers brakes they felt amazing loads nicer then a maggie not as nice as alis vee brake though. you never see sams brake slip though in comps when it does matter ;)

I don't see your point? I know discs can be good. But IN MY OPINION nowhere near comparable to a maggy.

Well, you don't see peoples maggies slipping in comps either.

Meh, I ride a bit of natural and you don't need good hold. Street and TGS is where you really need it. Yeah yeah, i know you'll jump down my throat because of that last sentence. On you go then. ;)

Yeah, and most of them people wont have had a double disk bike, or felt one which is set up perfect, you all just jump on a bandwagon thinking disks are shit!

Yeah that's probably true, as MOST of the Inverness riders are MAGGY TILL I DIE BOIZZ, and yes I did used to ride with them all, so i do know that for a fact :P

Mate, I seriously think you've only felt disks that have been set up/bled by retards.... I've felt plenty of disks which have been sharp as fook and felt lovely, so either, your just saying you've never felt any nice ones, orrr refer back to the first part of the sentence.

Ha I know your not, cause if you were, i'd be having one right back ;)

I've never had a disc or a v brake on the rear of my trial bikea so i dont really have an opinion on this but i have a disc on the front which feels awesome and the discs on my Kona, albeit not a trial bike, are also top notch so i do like discs in general. I've never had any bother setting them up or maintaining them.

On the rear of my trial bikes i've only ever had Mags which i have always been a fan of but on this frame this flex business is really quite annoying. Seeing as i cant seem to get an alternative booster to the Evo 2 to fit i think i will be replacing it with something else and i am really tempted by the Mono Trials if i'm honest.

i've riden dual disc for the last 18 months. avid bb7s f+r. awesome setup, but now i've moved to a rear vee, i prefer cable massively over hydraulic, a new set of cables every 4-5 months makes it feel like brand new, bb7s are very fun to tinker with so you can get your ideal lever feel. couldnt fault the brake, lots of hold, sometimes it would give if i landed a bit to low down a wall (vees dont do this, part of why i switched (Y)) its up to you and your wallet. either setup can be great :D

and disc pads last forever...

Oh well, that must mean the factory bleeds for Hope Mono's and the Try-All discs are bled by retards.

Hahaaa your a comedian, it's not necessarily the bleed that'll make it feel shit, it's the set up of them, and hope don't do that, the owner does that.

And to be honest Winnie, since you've had previous experience with disk brakes, and you can maintain them as well, you should go for a rear disk, because at the end of the day, it will be a great rear brake and it's what you like and not what anybody else on the forum likes.

I'm currently giving serious thought to building up a dual disk bike too. I've never found a brake setup with maguras that holds every time and in all conditions. I've tried smooth rims (Brilliant in the dry, quite noisy, but lethal as soon as it gets damp), currently run a pretty harsh grind and TNN pads (Not quite as good on bite and hold as heatsink, but slower wear rate), reasonably good in the wet, but serious wear rate on the pads (Have to fiddle with the TPA a couples of times on long sessions), insanely noisy and will still slide sometimes when I come up short on back wheel landings. The current design HS33 levers seem a lot less solid than the old design too, so less reassuring in use.

I'm running 203mm Louise on the front and that bites and holds very nicely, but again isn't 100% reliable, but seems close enough to the HS33 in terms of bite and hold with the benefit that I don't have to mess about with the TPA, pad position, glueing pad refills, lazy pistons or deafening noise to get a brake that's about as good. The disk also has some modulation, so I might even be able to learn to manual without deafening myself...

Does anyone rate disks other than the BB5 and 7 and Hope trials disk for rear wheel use? I prefer mineral oil brakes to cable and DOT fluid ones (Purely because mineral oil is safer to deal with while cable disks don't automatically adjust for pad wear). Anyone tried Shimano XT servo wave or Magura Louise on the back of a trials bike?

just a point in favour of cables not adjusting to pad wear, with a disc brake, pads wear down so slowly it doesn't really make much difference, and with a sd7 and bb7 setup you have 5 points of adjustment so it's prety fun to really dial in the right feel, and i've nocked levers with pad adjustment and lost the prevous feel after i've reset the caliper, bad-times.

To dip a fly into the ointment.....

Whilst alot of people rave about the BB7 (particularly on the front) I had one on the back of the triton for a couple of months and to be honest it was the most dissapointing brake I have used. It couldnt hold my weight on anything larger than a curb, bite was reasonable and modulation was good but hold was worthless, even with the speed dial on maximum power. I re-bedded it several times and the only time it almost worked was when the disk was wet. The wheel flex was acceptable, didnt feel anywhere near as planted or solid as a rim brake though.

Seriously, use a rear vee, its lighter, cheaper and will work better, especially on your frame :)

Just to let you know.....

Hunters rear maggie is the BEST brake I have ever used.

People who I know with discs always have problems with them but people with maguras are always fine.

And vee's are well good :)

Hehe. That back brake was beast.

It's lost it's hold now due to my anodising wearing. :(

Vee's are the best! Haha. No doubt.

To be honest in your situation I would definetly get a disc, if you had proper 4 bolt mounts on your frame then I would tell you to keep with hs33 but evo mounts really arn't worth the hassle. The only thing you have to get use to with a disc is the different feel on the back wheel, when you first hop with a rear disc it sort of feels like the wheel is floating around, i guess it sort of is because it can move side to side but you soon get use to it.

Buy what you can afford, I would always say a hydraulic brake is better over cable from my experience. I found the magura louise discs to have a fairly good hold and you can do a lot worse then a mono trial. I guess you braking the frame is more down to how hard you ride, if you do a lot of big stuff then maybe it will crack but to be fair if you don't abuse it too much you should be alright. Don't blame me if it does crack though lol.

Sorry for the blabering just thought I would say something as I really don't think vee brakes or evo mounts with a hs33 are the way forward.
