tkD
So I've been riding 2 weeks now. I can hop onto a bench Pedal up kinda thing, back wheel onto the bit you sit on then flick the back up to the top. But I'm wondering, how do I use pedal kicks to gain somewhat height, maybe a foot? So I could backwheel the first bit of the bench and then kick up to the top, is it as simple as just jumping or do I need to use another technique? As I get no height on them. Cheers. bikeperson45
It's all in the preload, get down low before you kick and as you do sort of jump up as well

tkD
Right.............. Sorry for being cynical lol, but I still doubt it.It's fine, I've no need to lie thats all, I can hop like, just over bar height, I can't jump straight up the bench, but can hit the first bit quite easily. It's justc cuz the trials learning curve starts reaaaaally shallow (in my experience, anyway), so after two weeks that really wouldn't be bad lol. tkD
Yeah man, I cannot even get a sidehop off the floor, I just cannot do it, but I can hop high in general =/
bikeperson45
Have you looked at Trashzen? Best place to lookAnd watch some videos with lots of sidehops in and try tpo imitate their technique
scary_jeff
I'm just learning this now. The main point that helped me was to start with a small forward hop allowing me to carry some momentum into the main hop. You can also lean back further if you're already moving forward; leaning back further, there's more space to bend your legs and jump up as you pedal for the main hop. I started off using this technique to just hop onto lines of paint in a carpark, then up a curb (it was very obvious when I had got the right technique for this, I went from landing on both wheels together to landing just on the back wheel), then progressively larger rocks/ledges in the normal trials way. For larger obstacles, I was told to slow the whole thing down a bit, spending more time preloading on the back wheel after the first hop, which did help a lot. All this came out of riding with other people who already knew how to do it, so I think this would be the best thing to do if you can.Hope this helps. I made the second post. How many posts was it after that until you posted? Exactamente =P Just cuz he could bunny hop a bit on bikes which are easier to hop anyway before doesn't mean he can go straight onto benches after TWO WEEKS. I did alot of BMX/jump bike riding before I went trials and yeh it helped me alot I remeber have huge bunny hops on a trials bike within a few weeks. So give this guy a brake. BringThatShtIn
Whats with all the beef and stuff on this forum? Some ones asking for help, saying what he can do on his bike and you have to be like "yhe you cant do that". I did alot of BMX/jump bike riding before I went trials and yeh it helped me alot I remeber have huge bunny hops on a trials bike within a few weeks. So give this guy a brake. 2 things:Firstly, 'within a few weeks' is what, like 4 or 5? Not TWO. And anyway, just 'cause you can do huge bunnyhops doesn't mean you can accurately jump straight onto a bench, which takes balance and finesse as well as 'look how high I can go'-ness.Secondly, in the quote which YOU quoted, I said at the end: 'if you can then well done'. So you're misquoting. You know nothing of this so stop trying to make it look like your the expert on what WE'VE said. Go away EDIT: You're right about the help bit, looking back, I was sort of missing the point. Preload and throw yourself upwards, i.e, push the tyre into the bench before you try and kick. My point still stands neos. Go away lol. Edited October 16, 2009 by BringThatShtIn

The way I rode BMX was like I was on a trials bike to be fair, and I did a bit of trials but nothing major :/ I've got decent balance and I'm pretty strong so I can throw it about quite accurately.
