New Bike For A New Rider

OK so I'm 'bikeless', and I want to begin Trials Riding. I used to go mountain biking a lot; it's been a few years but I'm really looking forward to riding again and learning a new style. So here's the question.

What's a good trials bike for a beginner?

I want to go 26", don't ask me why, I just can't seem myself getting from A to B on smaller wheels. I'm looking on ebay for a second hand one to get me started. My plan is, once I've got back into riding, I'll flog it and get a new bike.

The Onza Hitman and Cleaner are the obvious choices I've pulled up from Google. Is the higher spec bike worth the extra £175? Are there any others I should consider?

Really appreciate your advice, Thanks!

'' don't see myself getting from A to B....''

trust me, with a trials bike, you wont be going from A to B anyway mate, the gear ratios are specific and make it very difficult to ride distance, after your first bike you will understand why. With an MTB background your probably better off with a stock (26") keep an eye out on ebay for good second hand deal on bikes such as an echo control or zoo pitbull ect. :)

Yeah I realise I'm not going any distance on it, I don't intend to, I guess I'd just feel a bit daft on one with tiny wheels. I'd prefer one with some gears as opposed to fixed single speed though. What do you guys think of this one Phase 1.2 ? If that's no good I will just have wait for a second hand one that's not hundreds of miles away to pop up on ebay or somewhere.

I picked up my Phase 1.2 off ebay for £125.

If you like it and want to spend more money on your bike just do what i am doing.

Started with the phase 1.2.

Found i liked Trials.

Bought new Rear wheel with a hope Pro2 hub. Bought new cranks and drive train. New hope front disc brake.

Once you are happy with the modifications get a new frame. This is where i am, just saving for the frame.

No point in spending loads on a bike if their is a chance your not gotta enjoy it.

I definatly agree with whats just been said.

I know a few people that have started with the phase bikes and the

cheap onza bikes. I would definatly recomend the phase.

Its a wee bit heavy but to be honest if you just want a cheap bike

to see if you like trials and to practice on theres nothing wrong with it.

My friend has been through quite a few frames but after all of them he decided to

go back to a phase 1.2 so cant see them being that bad.

And like the person above me said... If you do turn out liking trials then just upgrade

parts on the current bike, like getting lighter forks, better back wheel etc.

Would also definatly recomend stock (26") seeing as your from mtb background

You could allways meet people on rides and see what there bikes ride like to get an idea

Well hope this helps you in some way and just keep your eye out on ebay =]

shutup, i ride 7 miles to the station on my bike usually do it in 40-45 minutes it's not the easiest, but if you get your tyres pumped up hard and your hubs roll right then your fine.
