Leevans
When I first got into trials I was extremely lucky enough to have a Cannondale Ashton, the bike itself lasted my for years with a few upgrades every now and then, until on day it could last no more.......chainstay didnt want to stay any more and decided to try and 'relocate'.Any way I have now found another frame on ebay which i have purchased and am now looking to build an old skool replica of the bike Mrtyn used to ride, if anybody could help me with the parts he used, i would be very thankful or if you have any of said parts, please let me know.Cheers guys. Dan_Trials
Excellent idea! I did that with my Hawziee replica, well as much as I could afford! Which version did you get? The classics were the all blue ones, his last edition was the 'fade to white' one, which is very very rare. He used a custom made SRAM Grip Shift which was narrower then the usual. There was a picture in a edition of MBUK, many years ago, I'm sure someone scanned it onto the net. You'd need Middleburn RS7s. IRC Kujo DH rear tyre and Hutchinson Eldorado dual compound front. Hmm, Hope Big Uns might be hard to find. Oh and don't forget the Union Jack DCD!
monkeyseemonkeydo
Build it and they will come. I would've killed for a proper Ashton replica back in the day. I'd have sold my own gran for a set of Coda cranks...
Leevans
I think I still may have to sell my gran to get this as spot on as possible haha.I never knew Cannondale made the white fade frame, seen Martyn riding it but didn't know they had put it into production.....My frame is the classic blue one, oh and was the white fade differant geometry to the original frame?I'm hoping to source alot of the parts from ebay and 2nd hand sources, the union jack dcd was a pro odel, only the sponsered riders had them?I have the union jack seat and the previos vel model seat, fatty r's, maguras and that about it for now, any more info would be highy helpfull. Thanks guys. Dan_Trials
Well from what I have learned, his own frames did have different geo to the production ones which were more 'general'. The fade to whites weren't a production colour (and I think there were only a few) but at least one has passed through ebay. You could have a DCD air brushed, thats if you can find a DCD these days! Oh yeah dont forget the CRUD guard! All this talk makes me want to build one of the Hawziees back up!
STEELE1
he didnt run big un's, they were hope bulbs, the sram shifter, was hacksawed down, he also had coda stem, post, cranks, on earlier models, rims were d521's, though i think he did at one point run x-lite phatso rims, azonic riser bars.when i use to ride trials back in my teens, i was lucky enough to ride with martyn, back when cannondale rode in red, and martyn had the breast of the east. monkeyseemonkeydo
cranks, middleburn rs7 trials (i belive martyn tested the prototypes)Cranks have got to be Coda's for true old skoolness. IRC tires too. Oh and one of those triple colour flite saddles... but then most of that stuff was what he used on his original red Beast of the East's. *Drool*

isitafox
YES!! Love a bit of old skool. I myself am rebuilding a Heavy Tools Trials frame from the days of the Martins, hope the build goes well. If you decide to go for some IRC tyres I've got a set of Kujo's with quite a bit of tread left on if your interested. Gutted they don't make them anymore, Missiles and Kujo's were awesome trials rubber!
