Riding Shorts?

I did my first competition a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it but couldn't help notice that everyone was wearing some riding type shorts and some trials shoes. Now what are you views on these? Do they aid performance etc?

Any that you people could reccomend?

personally i think shoes are important (as of pedals too) since your shoes (and pedals) are the connection between you and the bike. Loosely worn shoes or a worn out grip pedals will sure affect any moves which involves gripping the rear pedals!

Reason i wear the shoes is mainly for grip on pedals (I feel it offers more)

And reason for shorts is there comfortable keep me cool if it hot and light weight.

Yeh i think the worn out soles on my lacoste trainers don't offer a shell load of grip lol.

What do people reccomend then?

know that this sounds a bit crazy but anyone try sandals or slippers?

i find that being able to hook my first and second toe around the slipper's stem give me extra grip and strengh when pushing back on my pedals. O_O

they could invent some trial shoe with the slipper stem in it

I like to ride in shorts most of the time (even if its cold), the freedom of movement is great!

Shoes are really important, I used to swear by ribos, but they have no fallen from favour as I now prefer 5-10s. The grip is amazing, if you havn't used them before they are like nothing else! They also grip rocks and walls really well (so they should being a rock climbing company and all) so if you ever dab or fall off, you have a lot more grip and can get out of tricky situations better. They last a long time too, I have had my pair since Jan and they are still great.
