Otacon
Dream on boy. Only POSSIBLE way ive found, is if you learn with the AA and pass with them, which gives you an automatic 15% discount off if you insure your car with them, also, if you take the pass plus after youve got your license with the aa, which costs £150, that knocks another 35% off your insurence. So in total, whatever your quote is, just half it. Atleast thats what im doing
Pashley26
Any ideas on what cars have cheap insurance? tryed loooads and cant get any under 2000.Pffft, I'd LOVE to be paying 2K PA !!!Metro's, poverty spec 106's, 205 diesels etc etc will be cheap to insure. If you get a quote now with a provisional license it will go up when you get a full license, also take a pass plus ASAP because it drops insurance by 20% straight away.I buy and sell a LOT of cars, and I always use this site to check on insurance first - http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance/Do "Insurance by group" and go through 1 to 5 and find a car you like, group one will be the cheapest and group 5 the most expensive. In my experience anything above group 5 will be pushing 2K.And do NOT put you down as a named driver on your parents policy, it's illegal and basically shit. My insurance didn't change at all when I passed, and pass plus is also a con, the only companies that give you that kind of discount are the expensive ones! My mate did PP and I've always paid less for insurance than him despite always having similar cars.My first car (1.3 MK2 Golf) was £1200ish to insure with just a provisional, it pays to shop around Oh and if you're basing these prices on compare sites that'll explain why the quotes are so high, they're shite. My mate did PP and I've always paid less for insurance than him despite always having similar cars.I didn't have a provisional license, so I don't know first hand however it DID go up by about 10% when my sister passed her test.I did a Pass Plus and had it paid for by Hampshire CC, got 20% off my insurance too.And the expensive insurance companies pay out with out any hassle ! When I wrote off my Rover NFU paid out before they'd even read the details, I could have had a rental car and everything if I wanted it. They covered every part of it, including my dads food whilst he was at the hospital ! You can walk into a local office and see the same person every time, and if you have a problem it gets sorted. I used Admiral to insure my Mk2, and I'm NEVER using another company again ! I *still* haven't received the return from my deposit and second months cover (which I was supposed to receive in 6 weeks!) Pashley26
Or live in a nice area/not crash.I live in a nice area, and my crash hasn't affected my insurance because I wasn't at fault. Smart ass...
N.Wood
Thats fantastic, however not everything revolves around you.In my years of experience, along with the type of car you want insured, these two are the main factors. When I had my Golf I simply put that I had a set of wheels and a full exhaust (never mind the rest of it!) and the price pretty much doubled ! Matthew_Gibson
1st car, Fiat punto, bog standard, 1l. 55bhp on a provisional license wasjust over £700. and for passing I had to pay £1458.98 so basically doubled. after a year it halfed, got a new car. a 1.4 16v VWlupo. modded. and mods declared. (new alloys. lowered, debadged, engine remap) didnt change. changed to an Astra 1.4 estate went up £13 a monthso I think it goes on car size rather than engine size. Oh and it didnt change when i told em i had points!
Pashley26
so I think it goes on car size rather than engine size.My 3.9EFI Land Rover Discovery was the cheapest car I've ever insured, so I don't think so.It's all about the group... Otacon
Surely it'd be 35% off the price with the 15% already taken off. Not 50% straight off.Nah mate, the AA website doesn't ask you to specify if you passed with them or not, nor does it ask you if you've got pass plus. So, when you check online for you're quote, you take the 15% off for passing with the AA, then also if you do take pass plus with the AA and pass, take the other 35% off the amount aswell. So basically, what ever quote it shows you online, just half it.Atleast thats what they said on the phone to me.
Max Quinn
Get you're mum/dad to take out the policy, with you as a named driver. Brought mine down from £2000 to £800. Means you don't get proper no claims bonus but I figure I'll worry about that shit when I've got more money.
