Smooth Rim Pad Decision

Warbs

Recommended Posts

I have been trawling trials forum to try to find out which pad people consider the best for smooth rims! I know you are all going to tell me to get a grind but at the moment I wish to run smooth rims!!

I know it is a matter of personal preferance, but which of the following pads do you all think is the best for smooth rim with regards bite and hold???

1. Neco Reds

2. Heatsink Snowies

3.Tnn LGM

4. Phat Pads

I dont understand why some people still running smooth rims in trials at least on the back. Grind it and get phat pads or LGMs, bite and hold is so much better!

I might have a go a grinding my rim at the weekend then I have had a quick look at the wiki.

I to this day never really 'get' grinds. When i ground my rim all it did was make the brake really slippy and the pads wore down stupidly quickly, also I've never ridden a bike with a grind that I thought was anywhere near a decent working brake.

I use clear pads on a smooth rim on the front and it works f**kin ace.

Would probably work well on the back, however in the rain is a different matter.

I use Tnn with a shit grind that may as well be smooth on the back.

It's because my ZHI rim just will not hold a grind, when freshly ground it works awesomely but when the grind is dead, it is pretty good too.

Definately stick with smooth rims, and coust pads, you wont ever look back

Cousts are the way forward for smooth, ive had mine since christmas and they have worn down maybe 3mm at most.

If you dont want to spend that much money on cnc cousts then get yellows, they may even be a little bit better (Y)

They most certainly are not! Lol, two of my friends have had cousts on smooth and they have FAILED!

Seriously mate, get Heatsink Snowy's. Best pads EVER! Beast on smooth.

Sorry for this, just thort i'd ask seeing as its on the toppic dont mean to thread hyjack:

I'm thinking about getting Green Rock Pads on a smooth rim, at the moment i run magura kool stops, im not 100% if its worth getting them if its the same as magura kool's because the kools seem pritty hard so i wondered if they where like the same as Green Rocks?

Cheers.

Laurence.

PS. sorry for hyjack

Citrus pads are useless on a smooth rim lol, my brother tried it and they were worse than koolstops, that was on a brushed sidewall though, dunno what they'd be like on anodised.

I've got snowies on a seriously light grind on my mod, they're completely mad, definately recommend them.
