anzo
First of all, how much RAM do you have on this machine and what operating system are you using? (Start>Control Panel>System)There is little point in deleting all the applications if the computer can barely handle itself - I'm going to assume you have 1GB RAM, it may be worth getting another 1GB in there if you're using pretty resource heavy applications (I.E Photoshop).Be very careful when using msconfig. Disabling things in there randomly to speed the computer up will probably cause more problems - usually people end up disabling anti-virus or firewall apps and you'll get a dozen (hopefully!) messages telling you to start them back up.However it's difficult to tell what application is what by the file name, they're not as clear as have.exe for anti-virus, however if you look at the path next to it you'll see which folder it is from.I'd remove any unused applications from the Start>Control Panel>Add Remove Programs - usually you'll find a lot of crap in there to free up the system a bit.If you're on XP you can go to Start>All Programs>Startup - anything in here can be safely deleted without altering the function of your computer.Last of all, what anti-virus are you using?NOTE: A.V (without the dot) changes to have Bah! ~Samsam~
I'd do a virus scan tooProbably not a virus, it's unlikely but might aswell checkAnd if you're using norton internet security & antivirus, switch from them to something elseThey're mega slow and resource hungry and to be honest, mega crap
