Nick Manning
I'm rebuilding my wheels and changing the rims from 26 to 24. I've come across a huge problem on the rear wheel, I've stripped the 26" wheel and removed all the spokes in hope that the cog wouldn't be in the way of the spokes for building the new wheel. Unfortunately it is in the way and I cannot get the cog of. Does any one have any successful suggestions for removing the rear cog. Thanks
nathie wafie
Are you keeping the cog or replacing it mate??
Nick Manning
Preferably keeping, but if needs be will replace, getting the wheel built is more important.
nathie wafie
before ive heated it up with a blow torch and used a chain whip, obv wearing heat resistant gloves lol, or a hacksaw and cut a groove in it, allmost down to the thread and then got it off, both ways are pretty labour intensive but thats the only ways i know mate, hope it works Edited September 8, 2009 by nathie wafie

Nick Manning
Success!!!I've just got back from Halfords and with a little help from Nathan Roach, The cog has been removed, threads on the hub are a little worse for wear in places (caused by myself with a hack saw), but nevertheless the cog is off and the threads are good enough to still be used. Now, I just need to obtain a cog, as I'l be building the wheels tonight, finishing the bike tomorrow and wanting to ride it.
