It's abit pricey yeh, but I'm getting about 820£ back for my Toshiba.Any of you guys got any of Acer's laptops? What do you think of them? Many thanks,Benny. MadManMike
I had an Acer. Never again.Cheap build quality and even though on paper the specs look good, it was slow and crap.
lewiswolsey2009
Hmmm for that price you could get a vaio, as pointed out above and vaio's are generally a wicked laptop. So to be honest mate id go for the Vaio.

BeNNy
Yooo,Thanks for replies guys. Seems like I'm geting mixed reviewss hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. What do you lot think of HP? Cos this has caught my attention.... Too bad it's 15.4" though sigh.http://www.johnlewis.com/230574621/Product.aspx
~Samsam~
DROOLYou could get an AlienWare Laptop for that price tooThey're shit-hotIf I was spending that much on a laptop I probably wouldn't go with a HP either
BeNNy
Yeh my friend reccommended an Alienware one. But if it messes up or something, I'd have to get it sent off. Whereas, if I bought a laptop from John Lewis... I could just give it to them to get it repaired and they can give me a loan laptop whilst it's in for repair you seeeeeeeee.Think I might just take a risk and go for Acer to be honest Thx for the replies guys! Si-man
Laptops are shit compared to Desktops if you want gaming performance. Have to spend over £2k for a decent one and even they are rubbish compared to about £1k for a good desktop.Depends what it's being used for though? BeNNy
Ahh.. Just for uni really (Internet, multimedia stuff, storage, bit o' gaming etc) and taking it back home etc. Since I don't have a desktop anymore, thought it'd be more convenient for me to get a decent spec'd laptop. Si-man
Have a look at rock laptops. Might be a wee bit more but they are good.
Tomm
But rock laptops are made more for gaming? My Mum's just bought a new Acer timeline laptop - I've not had a proper look but it does seem to be very nicely made. It's thin, light, and nothing bends/creaks etc. Supposedly has an 8 hour battery life too which is immense if true. Like other people have said though - it depends what it's for. If it's just for a home (desktop replacement) computer and you don't want the hassle of a desktop and loads of wires on your desk, that's a very different option compared to if you want a laptop to carry everywhere and work in cafes/trains etc.

Might just be the odd one though.
JT!
I had an Acer. Never again.Cheap build quality and even though on paper the specs look good, it was slow and crap.My acer must of had an amazing build quality. The dogs have launched it off a 3ft cabinet twice now and it was still working after that, it only just a few months ago broke after been nearly 4 years old.I guess the price of the laptop you're looking at is pricey but I assume that includes the extended warranty which can cost 100 pounds + anyway. But for 800 pounds I'd be looking at other makes and brands.
trialsmax04
Yes i use my laptoop for general use. My girlfriend had a hp laptop of roughly the same age as my acer and larger RAM. My acer is way quicker and never freezes. Go acer!
Deonn h
Ive got sony vaio vgn ar21m 17" screen hd . Was a couple of thousand or more when I first got it like 2 years ago. Personally, i think its a peice of shit. The new ones might be abit better, with newer processes etc.But this just gets slow when you have quite abit on the hard drive. Screens also failing now, but maybe thats normal with hd screens. Also the battery life is terrible. But then again i use the laptop for everything, as i dont have a desktop. MadManMike
What you're forgetting is that laptops aren't as good as PC's, your laptop is two years old so the battery will have got worse...Laptops, PC's etc always slow down after a couple of years of use - backup what you want and re-install Windows and it'll fly!(And no, Mac bummers, this isn't limited to Windows. My brothers Macbook has gone slow as a 2CV too)
Dan6061
I have an Acer desktop. Put in another (bigger) hard-drive, and upgraded it to 1GB ram, it's fine!Sister has an Acer laptop too, bit dated now, still alright though. Does the job, isn't slow... BeNNy
Yeah, I agree that laptops are not as good as desktops in terms of reliabilty. But as I've said, this laptop is basically replacing my desktop since I don't have my desktop anymore Good to know that some people are getting along with their Acer's, even after a few years use. Hopefully sometime this week (maybe tomrorow) I'll get my Acer then I'll post back to comment on its overalllllll-nessssssssssssss
BeNNy
Yoooooooo.Got my laptop, lol t'is a beast. So far so good with everything, but then again, only had it for a day Anyways, I have these 'media control' buttons on the right hand side of the keyboard, they're like touch sensitive ones. I want the "open player" button to open up windows media player instead of windows media centre, does anyone know how to edit these buttons? - Tried googling but not many gd answers.Thanks.
