bikeperson45
My Onza derailleur is dead now, and was wondering whether I should get a cheap short arm mech again or make the leap to a tensioniser.I have a Hope Pro 2 trials hub, 18 tooth chainring and a 1/8"chain. I've looked on Tartybikes and saaw the Tensile and the Atomz.Would either work on my bike? What scares me is they both look derailleur-ish. Would they brake as easily as a derailleur after a big knock? And would something like this work?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gusset-Bachelor-SING...e_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item3a528a51da&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14Thanks a lot Edited September 6, 2009 by bikeperson45

RossMcd
Get a sprung tensioner if possible Fixed tensioners are usually pretty crap at keeping tension.. A 74kingz or a rohloff is the best options. But I have heard good things about the tensile ones too The long arm tensile one should fit your setup

r2wtrials
I use both a 74kingz and tensile... not at the same time obviously ... i prefer the 74kingz as it is will tucked out of the way and won't shag the hanger or frame if you land on it heavily. Only issue, as you said, is that they have been knocked on the head and i am using hacksaw blades as the spring. The tensile is very good and helps wrap the chain around the spocket better... it has more adjustability than the rohloff. It is the same as the koxx and various others, come out of the same far east factory!

bikeperson45
i use this tensioner http://tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?produc...category_id=113Its very strong and i have given it a hard time but it still holds out and neither has my hanger broke XD.Go for it!How do you find it? I'm tempted by it because it looks simple and less easy to destroyCan you only get the 74 kingz tensionisers secondhand now? Thanks for help

bikeperson45
These are good for the money. Bad-oiiiiingBefore I go for that, can someone tell me what this means?"• Maximum front difference - 16 tooth"Does it mean the difference in number of teeth between front and back?I run 22t front and 18t back, will it work? Thanks againEdit: Found out max teeth on back is 20 Edited September 7, 2009 by bikeperson45
Ross McArthur
If you have went for that one then, when you get it, cut off the little bit that sits against the hanger to hold it down. This will let the tensioner move up and touch the frame giving more chain wrap on the rear cog. Whack a wee Zip tie on it to keep it still too. duncan_echo26
I have a Trialtech Race tensioner that worked really well untill my derailleur hanger snapped but that could happen with any tensioner.
