Glensaunders
Hey guys, so I am hoping to get a trials bike for christmas. (I know its a fairly long way off, but I'm looking forward to getting a bike )And I'm just wondering what bike to get! I've had a few brainwaves, and I have kinda got a budget, I dont think I could go past £250I have thought on the; Onza Rip or the Onza pro. I'd prefer to get a pro, but quite a bit more money!I also thought about a Mad Phase 1.3, i heard good things about it.If I did get the rip, i'd probably stick Magura brakes and a load of extra goodies on it!So what do you think people? cant you recommend a good bike for me?Thanks, and hey -Glen
D-J-M
Well it depends on what size bike you want.If you want to ride a mod (20'') the pro is a better bike than the rip but is £116 more.I have a rip and they're fine for learning but you may want a better bike when your riding improves, or you could buy new parts for it when you need them. The phase 1.3 is a good stock (26'') bike for the price but if your just starting to learn trials I would advise to get a mod as they are easier to learn on.However if you have ridden 26'' bikes before (e.g. downhilling, mountain biking) you may feel more comfortable on a 26'' and therefore learn better.Hope I've helped
JT!
Assuming you're going for a mod, the rip is your only choice at a budget of 250 pounds unless you buy 2nd hand.It is better to spend more money on a bike, rather buying one then going out and upgrading it straight away. However, the rip is a decent bike, it should last you up to the point where you need to buy a new bike, or you've decided trials isn't for you (which unfortuneately is quite a common case due to the difficult initial skills you have to learn). My advice would be to buy the rip and don't upgrade it, (rips are hard to upgrade due to their 20" rear wheel and rear freewheel setup) and ride it untill you think you're too good for it and sell it on and spend 600 pounds or so on a new trials bike. If you can increase your budget so you could buy the pro, you could upgrade as and when you like. The pro is ( i think personally) one of the best bikes to upgrade as it doesn't have the drawbacks of the rip and the bird, and is fully disc and magura ready. Edited September 3, 2009 by JT! I have ridden a "26 Pashley before, it was my mates, but he was no good on it. drove it more than he did! And then he sold it for £75! Idiot! And I'm not sasying I actually ride bmx, my bike is !?%$ but I'm happy with it, but thats why I want to move on to trials. But I do know how to move my weight around on it, I basically always do wheelies, manuals and bunny hops. And I'm 15, but about 5"4. So I'm small for my age.Anyone else got any ideas? because i know there are some great bikes out there waiting for me get them I was also thing about a Saracen M.A.D?-Glen
