Time For A New Bottom Bracket?

hey there peeps!

I've got a BT raven 6.0 had it for a while now i got it from a mate as he had got a new bike!

Ive been riding it a few months now and ive noticed there is a little bit of play in the bottom bracket and its making some funny creaking sounds when i pedal slowly

or put allot or pressure on the pedals!

ive checked everything is tight and it all is, the only way i can describe the play is if i put the pedal arm parallel with the frame and push it towards and away from the frame it moves! not allot

maybe 2 or 3mm but its enough to notice it! that along with the noises makes me think somethings up with the BB.

Sorry for the poor explanation but i cant think of how to describe it lol!

If you cant understand what i mean ill try and get some pics to explain it a bit better.....

If anyone can help me that would be great!! as im not sure if there could just be something loose that i havent checked or if its time for a new BB!

If it is time for a new BB can anyone recommend some good 72mm shell square taper ones?

Thanks in advance!

Rich

So long as your crank arms are tight, theres little else it can be. Most BB's these days are unserviceable cartridge units so the only route is a new one. to be honest I've been out of riding for quite a while so I dont know whats good these days, I always swore by Shim' UN72. But I think thats now been replaced by UN73, which has a plastic 'nut'

by the plastic nut do you mean the bit between the crank arm and the frame and BB the bit you have to take off to get the the BB? ( sorry im fairly new to trials so still getting to grips with names of bits lol)

If that is what you mean then thats where i can see the movement looks like the plastic has worn!

Thanks

Have you checked the tightness of the BB? Do you have a BB tool? If i remember correctly the driveside tightens anti-clockwise, and the non-drive tightens clockwise. If its loose, remove it and chuck some grease on the inside of the plastic ring where it mates to the metal BB shell.
