The A-levels Shitting Yourself Thread.

He's not joking, at GCSE you can actually get a pass grade simply by turning up now. (They say pass, but actually it's a G).

F wasn't bad enough for some of the dregs in schools these days, say they made everything below C a pass, then made F and G pass grades too, and a U is if you skived it.

EDIT: I think, this is coming from people I know, not teachers or anything.

Our uni entrances were done on Highers at the time (proper Highers, none of this modular crap they do today) and I got 5 A's. So there :P.

At the end of the day you get what you put in,

You work you're ass off, you get rewarded,

If you don't, you go on the dole.

Thats bollocks.

My mum hasn't got a single qualification, but she's still in the top 10% wage bracket average for uk earners.

I think you missed the point. I doubt your mum got where she is by not working her arse off.

No, your right she did work hard to get where she is.

But I get the hump when people put all this pressure on younger people to get high GCSE grades, and to go on through higher education and stuff.

Because at the end of the day, it's all down to the individual.

I know a guy who can't spell/read/write or do anything on an academic level, but he could rebuild any engine you throw at him or hand build you a space frame for a race car. GCSE's, A Levels and AS's are not the end of the world, if you're going to make lots of money and get somewhere in life it's not down to how many tickets you've got it's down to whats going on in your head.

Just like that Scottish guy from the Dragons Den, he didn't have shit when he was a kid. Got kicked out of school, and got into gangs and stuff like that and now he's one of the largest investors in the country !

True, why are the government trying to get youngsters to study useless subjects at third-rate universities, instead of trying harder to get more people into the trades etc.

The target of getting 50% of school-leavers to "university" is ridiculous.

What is the top 10% wage bracket for UK earners?

In excess of 40K a year = top 10% of UK.

My mum's new job see's her on 54K PA.

Hardly investment banker territory, but still in the top 10%. Which proves the whole don't *need* qulifications.

Edited for my bad spelling, me and Prawn are on sofa with beer...

Were on 19 units each hahahaha

How many Alan Sugars and Duncan Bannatines do you think there are compared to the amount of people who have good jobs as a result of getting good qualifications? Yes, you don't have to have great qualifications to get anywhere in life, but they definitely help - especially bearing in mind we're in a recession and how competitive the jobs market is now. That is why there's 'pressure' on people to work hard in school, because if you know shit and have a piece of paper showing you actually know shit you're obviously significantly more likely to get a reasonably well paying job. Maybe not so guaranteed in the "top 10%" or whatever bullshit that was, but it's always going to be more advantageous to have good results than not. I'm not saying everyone should go to uni or anything, but good GCSEs, especially in Maths, English and Science, are the basics that are wanted by any employer.

Anyway, there's really no point worrying about it all - you did the work ages ago, so just chill out and see how it goes. Even if you crash and burn there's always clearing, and at the end of the day a degree's a degree pretty much wherever you get it from. If it's anything other than UCL/Oxbridge/Manchester/etc. then most people don't really give a shit where it's from.

Why worry? If you studied and worked hard you're bound to have good results. But if you didn't then yeah, you are probably gonna be f**ked.

I got ABUUU in AS and DE in A2. I'll admit I did 3 years of college cos I f**ked up my first year by playing too many computer games. I still made it to uni, on a course I love which leads to an area of work I'm actually interested in.

You get what you put in basically.

Did f**k all work and got ABCD, aka 360 UCAS points. For the record, I didn't do 'general studies' either so I don't have some bullshit other A-level that means literally nothing...

People who say stuff like this really annoys me to be honest, and those who say Alan Sugar etc. I can go into a deep explanation why if any of you actually give a f**k.

If you had said you did f**k all work and got AAAA then I would of had my hats off to you. I don't know about you but some people are just naturally good at some subjects, so they don't really need to do much more work than they already do in class.
