superjay
I see you always get people going on about helmets which i under stand why but if you ask me and for this type of riding i think knee and shin pads are very important.my knee is a mess from smashing it into the bars or the pedal flipping round and hitting my knee or shin.first thing im doing tomorrow im getting some pads because i like walking and it hurts also need some new gloves as mine are warn out and i got blisters now
Dale-Hill
Once you start improving you don't really get shin digs that often And when your hands harden there don't hurt much too.
Unipsycho
But if you ride for a while they'll go soft and squidgy again. I've found from riding bike and unicycle trials and playing guitar, you don't really have to stop doing it for long before your hand goes soft again. Gloves are a good investment. As for shin and knee pads, progress=safety helmet vital though Edited August 17, 2009 by Unipsycho
iLikeTheBikez
I can see what you all mean but i already have dents and slashes in my legs/shins from leaning the backhop but i havnt been hitting them badly recently so im probably guna go with out
superjay
Well i have always riden with gloves and never had blisters but now there shot i get them but i got some new ones today so my hands feel good.As for the shin knee pads couldnt get them all sold out so have to wait but not a day goes by yet i havent hit my knee or shin but i have only just started as with most things as you get better you fall less and stuff but i will still where them as its not worth it for the one time it goes wrong. sstein
I don't think gloves are neccesary unless it is to stop you from slipping off, as for shin pads it depends, some people never catch their legs and some people do it all the time, I wear a knee and shin on my forward leg but I don't catch it often, it is just incase. Redneck
IMO, the most important things are brake pads, helmet, and then shin guards. id rather protect my tail bone and brain before my shins. i gotta agree that a pedal in the shin hurts like hell.
