Will It Brake My Bike

i have a zoo 09 pitbull i wanted to go single speed but no frame seems to cater for 16-14 so my (genius) mate put the chain on my pitbull and made the single speed work but problem is its quite tight will this possibly brake my bike as i dont think the constant presure on bb will do anything good he says the chain will stretch but then itll be more likely to snap i only road it for 2 mins i really am not sure about it wat is your thoughts on this????

thanks lads and lass's ste

tried explaining ore below

sorry must of not been clear i am running 16-14 gearing i had a tensioner on but my mate took couple links out my chain because he insisted that it would work he managed to get the chain on without the tensioner so its like a mod but because the vertical dropouts the chain is very tight but it runs just stiff. as its so stiff will this damage my bb or my hub? hope this is more clear

I'd put a link back in and the tensioner back on. As it is it'll just add to the hammer the chain gets anyway, then when it does stretch, it'll be all slack and clattery.

cheers its really so tight if it stretched it would not got clattery if it had stretced that much would of snapped but i do think the same

Sprung tensioners will allow for the fact that cogs are never round adn that there will be tight spots on the chain. running a chain very tight with out any form of sprung tensioner is asking for it to snap in my opinion. Personally i think people run chinas too tight full stop, that and they dont change them often enough. Put a link back in and the tensioner on, sorted.

I'd say the same to be honest mate, chain will strech over time, dont worry about it.

I believe what he means is:

He put a bigger sprocket on his cranks/hub. Because of this, his chain is now very tight.

If this is the case, put an extra link in your chain,or loosen your tension.

Your dp scears me :ermm: lolz

Laurence.

IMO get a chain tool and play around, try putting a link in and if not get a bit of a half link chain and play around with sizes until right, if not put a couple more links back in and get the tensioner back on there (Y)

Hi moose, get a link back in that chain and run it with a tensioner.Having a chain that tight will seriously shorten the life of your bb,chain and your freehub/free wheel.Yuor friend isn't a genius.Do it now before it turns into an expensive mistake.Ask on the forum before you do these things, there are loads of riders/mechanics onb here who know their stuff. It's better to ask first rather than let your mates knacker your bike for you.Byeeee
