Dual Ply Tyres

Recommended Posts

Hello, I ride trials for one year now, and I am always pinching my rear tyre every session, so I was asking myself if getting a dual ply tyre could be the solution to the problem...

So, Does it really reduce the pinching risks or is it just a myth?

And if it can help, which one shall I get? Continental Der Kaiser tyre seems to be a dual ply tyre so can it be efficient ( I am really thinking of buying that one so do you have any reviews?)? Or a classic Maxxis Minion or Highroller tyre?

I don't mind if it's heavier so don't bother about the weight...

HELP PLEASE!

Continental Rain King/Der Kaisers are the best rear trials tyres ever made in my opinion, so get one if you can.

If not, a Maxxis highroller/minion dual ply supertacky is the second best. Either will significantly reduce punctures compared to a single ply tyre.

What tyre are you running now?

If you pinch a DK more than once a month (if you ride hard every day) then you need to learn to be smoother and/or pump up your tyres.

I've had a proto Rain King and a DK, over about 7 months now and i've had 2 punctures I think?

Well! On chain reactioncycles, they sell it to 49.99 pounds ( http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=38428 ) without shipping and 59.99 pounds with shipping to France so...

Anyway, if there is any problem and that the price matchig stuff does not work, it's alright!

I will get in touch with my local bike shop to see how much it would cost! If you are cheaper, then I will buy from you!

Let me know please Adam!

Could you expand on this statement please.

I can do yeah, what do you want to know?

In my experience they offer the best:

Grip

Puncture resistance

Rolling resistance

Wear life

And offer very good:

Weight

Value for money (see wear life)

Search for my review on the Rain King if you wanna know more, or ask in here.

Sounds good to me, I'm looking to replace my rear rubberqueen, which I ripped open quite easily on a failed sidehop. Also I had loads of pinch flats with it and I'm a smooth rider.

How would you compare them to Sticky fingers?

Get an old tyre, cut a piece out and wack that inside the rubber queen, good as new. (Y)

They're 10000 times better than sticky fingers. They're grippier and more pinch resistant than the rubber queen.

Are you refering to the rain king or the de kaiser or both.

Will try that, thanks guys.

Anything at all is better than a sticky fingers, I tried a cheapo XC tyre that was better than my sticky fingers haha.

See now, I had some sticky fingers and they were alright apart from the weight and the fact that they got bunged up with shit really quick.

I was talking to a mate I ride with that is proper good and he thought sticky fingers are good. Not that I am saying I am a robot that listens to the nearest person, it's just he knows his shit and the price of RK/DK compared to sticky fingers..............

I mean my rubber queen wasn't cheap and ripping it open pissed me off, ripping open a 50 odd quid tyre would make me get the red mist I think.

I'm just wondering are the side walls on the RK/DK stronger than the rubber queen?

Also Nick I can't find your review of rain king/dekaiser tyre, any chance of a link please?

Thanks fer replies.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bump,

I'm still on a tyre search and thought I would re-cycle and old topic.

Summary:

Got rubber queen, need alternative because:

Pinch flats

Profile too high

Mine ripped open quite easily.

Mate of mines keeps puncturing all the time.

Profile too high f**king up the Geo on my bike.

Options I am looking at:

Maxis high roller single ply

Maxis minion front tread

Rain King

De kaiser

At the minute I am thinking of going with the minion.

Thanks

Matt
