~Samsam~
I've only ever heard of one or two female trials riders and I was wondering if there's a specific reason for this... Maybe they all spend too much money on shoes so they can't afford a bike I mean, it's not like it's a hugely dangerous sport as long as you're careful and not stupid which is the only deterent I can think of.But it's something you notice in BMXing and MTBing too, hardly any female competitors, it's a shame Thoughts? Mark W
For essentially the same reason that there's a massive gender gap between girls and boys in terms of playing with Barbie dolls. Some things just appeal to different sexes. Sports in general appear to be more interesting for men, and men tend to be stronger physically - which is obviously going to lead to it being more of a mans world (so to speak). Because companies are largely selling to a male saturated market, the way products are marketed and the way the whole sport is styled is in a masculine way too, so I suppose in a way that puts girls off. I doubt that it's anything that's going to change any time soon, and to be fair, why does it need to? There are just some things people aren't going to be interested in no matter what, and it's not really worth worrying about.
Redneck
i rode with quite a few ladys in moto trials then they all kicked my butt too. i dunno why there is so much of a gap, women seem to like trials when they try it. or at least the ones i know do. Maladie
I think what you said is true for BMX'ing and trials, but when it comes to mountainbiking, you're wrong.Easily 40% of downhill/4 cross MTB's will be female, no doubt about that. Also there was a female BMX dirt class in last years olympics.

Mark W
Also there was a female BMX dirt class in last years olympics. The women's category had less than a quarter of the amount of entries than the men's category, which was capped at a certain amount, if I remember correctly? I also fully don't believe the 40% thing, again just going from the entries to DH/4X races...

Also there was a female BMX dirt class in last years olympics. Are you sure you have no doubt? You take 10 random downhillers from the UK and 4 of them will be female? No. it's probably more like 5% at best.Just because there's a female class at the Olympics doesn't mean there's a lot of BMX dirt riders, it just means there's enough decent females to hold a competition. Scott Gibbs
Trials isnt as "cool" as some of the dissaplines of mountainbiking. so it doesnt have as much appeal. My girlfriend for example thinks supermoto racing is boring!!!!!!! But she loves freestyle motocross. And thats the difference if one is hugely popular and one isnt then they will see it as the less popular or less exposed and under publisised one there is not as good. and i think its the same with trials its not as in your face as downhill or 4x.
