Muel
Hey, thinking of making my rear Atomz rim single wall. It's 47mm wide and the same as a rear stock koxx rim as far as I know. Will it be alright? I'm not much of a basher, but getting more that way all the time... (I ran a rear Rubber Queen with a Maxxis downhill lite tube, never pinched it in about 4 months). Also worried about the stiffness of the sidewalls, I use a maggy so would it be mushier at the lever? Also, how much would I save roughly? hdmackay
I wouldn't reccommend it. You would have to ride veryy smooth then. Theres bound to be better ways to save weight that doing that. But meh, maybe that's just me because i'm a complete basher.
N.Wood
I'm using a Try-All Holes single walled rear rim and its been fine. No more out of true than when I built it a few months back, same sidewall stiffness and all that.

Muel
Yeh i was planning on leaving the boxing in, the only reason for me wanting to do it is I'm stripping my rims and it's be so much easier if it was single wall.I'd only have to do the outside and wouldn't have to get into the box section bit. N.Wood
Your tyre will be covering the inside though? What do you mean?
Muel
When I'm stripping the anodising off it'll be hard to get inside the box section in the centre to get all the anodising off, so if I single wall it you won't be able to see inside the rim, so I'll only have to strip the outside. LukasMcNeal
I spose you could soak the rim, then to get into the walling holes water jet blast it?
Bigman
Easiest way to get into everywhere to strip a rim with caustic soda is to get a small tub and fill with the caustic soda/water mix, then sit the rim in it verticaly so that part of the rim is submerged, stay in that place until the that part is stripped and then rotate, simple!!Single wall rims seem to be ok, I am running try-all holes rim atm and it has been very good so far Adam
