peggysue
if you have to use tar on your brake then something aint working right, either a soft compound pad with a smooth rim or a firmer pad on a light / medium grinded rim. always make sure things are setup evenly and squarely both sides of your brake , and everythings clean . after that your brake should bed in quickly and start preforming well. choice of pads is trial and error really, they all work well to an extent , and the slighlty more expensive pads do work better, but its up to you to decide which ones you prefer for what kind of riding you do most. Muel
No, brushed is the finish that comes on some rims when the sidewalls have had the paint cleaned off them, like the old Try-All rims. (Dunno if they still do it).The new Onza Pro series ones have it done too:Like so.
Maladie
My front Onza rim is like that Try-all one also.Though i'm running a disc so I wouldn't know what pads are best for it But about the tar and break pads, to be honest, it's personally preference, some people prefer pads that last ages and give them decent stoppage, but other people prefer to buy expensive pads that wear down very quickly but really do stop you. Redneck
ideally id get a medium to deep grind with soft pads and a few lines of tar on the rim. i find the stock pads that come with the HS33 work well for me. on my current bike im just taring the rims instead of grinding until i get my new bike built up. works great, just need to reapply tar after every ride. and it makes every one on the block stop and stare because of the horrible squeal that makes my feet vibrate. Sam Moss
I had a grind, 2 bolt brakes and green tnn pads it was crap. but when i went to 4 bolt brakes they went brilliant and that is just because the pads was square on to the rim. OnzaBhoy
I THOUGHT THAT THE SNOWES WORKED BETTER ON A SMOOTH RIM
