Wondered how long this would take to get here!

FAO Mark and people who are into BMX, what do you think of his riding?

I can appreciate that a lot of the stuff he does is f**king nuts, but later in that DVD is a guy called Patrick King who does equally big stuff, but makes it look controlled and equally rad as f**k. Most of the stuff Colt Fake does is pretty sketchy, and fair play 'cos a lot of it's nuts, but a lot of it seems like he's going into it thinking it's like a 50:50 in terms of whether he'd pull it. Personally, I hate doing shit like that just because it seems kinda pointless. If it's just luck about riding out of it, I'm not really into it. I hate it when I land stuff and it doesn't feel good or 'right', especially for video, so I'll generally do 'bigger' stuff again until it's 'right' in my own head. Some of the stuff he does you obviously wouldn't want to do it again, but it just means that overall it looks like he hasn't really got great bike control? I know that's not the be-all and end-all of riding, but it's something that makes you a great rider, rather than just being pretty good. "IMO" and all that jazz.

To summarise: Was cool to watch, not as good as Pat King's section, not something I'd want to do, fair play to him, "No helmet" wah wah wah.

EDIT: Just read a few more replies. I think the stuff he does is pretty awesome in a way, purely 'cos it sorta evens out the whole balance of BMX, in a way. Everyone's into techy nibbly stuff now largely 'cos it's fun to get new lines, but also I'd imagine because there's less chance of properly f**king yourself. If you f**k up a little tech line, it's not likely to be a big deal, whereas if you f**k up a massive bunnyhop gap, you're f**ked. People still talk about Jimmy Levan doing the Austin church gap because although it's "Just a bunnyhop" and "Anyone can do it", no-one else has (Well, apart from one guy who hung up?). The "Anyone can do it" arguement applies to literally anything in the world. Given the time, you could be like Vincent Hermance, Chase Dehart, Lance Armstrong or Chris Hoy - but not everyone is. That's why they're a step above everyone else, and that's pretty much why Colt Fake is.

I'd also like to point out that when you get to that level of drops and gaps it isn't simply a case of just going hella fast and doing stuff that "anyone can do", because it does take a bit of skill to do that, and it's different to doing smaller stuff. It's exactly the same way that just because someone can bunnyhop down a curb, you wouldn't tell them to go mach 10 and try and clear a double 10 set. It's also why people don't just go and do massive twists down El Toro or whatever, because it does take more than a 360 and a hop. So demeaning it by saying "Anyone can do it" is a bit whack. I can see why you might say that, but it's not entirely accurate and it's not really fair in that he IS going out and doing it, and, like I said, no-one else really is.

EDIT 2: I also massively prefer watching Colt's Banned section than watching something like this new edit:

Vimeo Video -> Original Video

The riding's arguably technically superior, but it's the same shit that everyone else is doing. You can pretty much call every trick before he does it.

I give this guy maximum respect for what he does; constantly pushing himself like that. But it really is just a matter of time until he has an accident and at those speeds and those heights it's going to hurt big time. Especially without a helmet. If he can still ride after that he'll probably tone it down ALOT.

That said, it was a good video and he is a v.good rider! If you saw him do some of that stuff whilst you were out trialsing in town you'd go, "Woooooooaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh, duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude".

Yeah... Ok! Helmet discussions will never end.

Thing is, some of these guys go down real hard. And when that happens, somebody has to feed them, shower them, wipe their ass and flip them over in bed a few times a dayso they don`t get bed rashes.

Let`s salute the people who does that job, instead of waste more time on discussing topics that are basically worthless.
