Disk Brake Infomation?

OK, received my new brake today, Magura Louise with a Marta SL cylinder..

The person i brought it off, didn't tell me it needs re-bleeding, and also didn't tell me the disk was slightly buckled (N) .

OK.. First, how do i unbuckle the rotor, i was told that if you put in the in oven, it can straighten it out.. but how long for, what temperature ect ect..

Second, how to bleed?

I haven't got a syringe, but i was told you don't need one.. any help is appreciated (sp), thanks guys!

An oven won't get anywhere near the temperature you need to take steel to before it'll (possibly - I have my doubts on this, some grade of titanium show the shape memory effect, but steel doesn't really do this, it won't even soften at the 250 degC most ovens go to) straighten. The best way to straighten disks is to get an adjustable wrench and bend them straight - the important thing is it make very small adjustments and check the effect of each adjustment before making the next one (Not unlike truing a wheel).

To bleed the brake the instructions are around if you search the forum. General rules are bleed from bottom to top and when replacing the reservoir cover, roll the diaphragm onto the reservoir to make sure you don't trap any air.

Bleeding with a syringe is most effective, but if you don't have one you can use the lever to pump oil from the lever to the caliper while holding the caliper higher than the lever to drive air out the caliper bleed port.

What oil can i use.. i was told cooking oil by one person, then was told that as a fail by another..?

Nooo dont use cooking oil, people in the really old skool days used it as a substitiute in their hs33's,it said in the actual magura manuals that came with the brake that you could use it,but you'd have to flush it all out properly, just don't do it,it's not worth it,just go get some dot 5.1 proper fluid,or i use castrol response synthetic super dot 4 in my hope mono trial(newer style)....it really is a simple process to bleed,i done a perfect job first time even though i was nervous, now it's childplay to me,hardest part which isnt even hard is as psycholist says, rolling the diaphragm on so you get no air in the system......you'l be fine, just dont get oil on your disc or pads....... http://www.hopegb.com/page_mep_force_33.html also this link might help,i know its for a hope like i have and not a magura,but....it will point you in the right direction, good luck :)(Y)

Hey man. Magura blood is the oil to use, dot 4 and 5.1 are for hope and some different disc brakes. So dont use dot oil or it will damage your seals! And do it using syringe from bottom. Google it if unclear. To straighten the rotor ask you brother to borow disc straightener tool, and be carefull when doing it as you might ruin the rotor. It is completely different brake comparing to hope!

DOT fluid ruins Magura seals - you need mineral oil. If you can get Magura Royal Blood that's the recommended fluid, but I've had no problems over the past decade running Citroen suspension fluid (LHM) in my brakes. I reckon it's a bit more viscous than Royal Blood, but that isn't noticeable on a disk brake. Don't try a water/emulsion bleed as this only works for Magura rim brakes where there's loads of insulation between the pads and the oil. It'll boil too easily in a disk brake.
