England Vs Europe?

I still think that a few "street comps", or at least more accessible, man-made comps (think Exeter, Trial of Wessex etc) would give a huge boost to the scene over here. There's no rule to say comps must be on natty, and it's been proven that when events are more accessible/within riders' comfort zones then the attendance shoots up and people have a really good time (plus it's far easier to make a spectator event out of it, as the ToW showed!)

If I had the time and means of organising such an event I'd be straight on it.

Or whatever that comp was called that was held at Bracken a few years back - that UCI comp that I think the Butlers were involved with putting on? Can't remember the name of it for the life of me, but it was a mixture of artificial and natural stuff, and seemed to go down pretty well.

I think the main issue is that over here everyone seems to want to be a street basher, over there they all want to be a world champ.

Dont get me wrong, street riding is good every now and then but comp style is where its at.

French Comp

v

English Comp

you decide ....

Sorry mate but every british national i have been to is nothing like that, its at places like blackpool moon rocks, addingham moorside and shipley glen. All of these are rocks and mainly natural apart from the blackpool man made rocks, basically they only man made because they have had concrete pored over them. However these are awsome venues but very different from the comp scene in the french video.

I also agree with Ali....the likes of vince and giles ride full time! Everyday!

The Guernsey comp scene is thriving at the moment. The two top riders live together, train together and follow a very strict diet.

Perhaps if you English boys took took a leaf out of our book you too could be champions.

Stop wasting your time pulling manuals and trying to ride with fluidity. Get rid of the jeans and hoodies, lose the seats and engage in some proper training; Running and swimming 3/4 times a week for example will dramatically improve your trials comp performance.

Personally, I think you definitely need a mixture of the two. When you look at riders in the lower levels of comps, you can really tell the difference between riders who just ride natural, and those who ride natural and street.

Tech04 thanks Mark

also we at ymsa have trid to add in the making of extra sections ie cotton reels and pallets etc skips also, its not the same here as in the euro trials we are so differant in many ways there comps are strong on the fact that the folks that run them work together for the sport but here they all just kick off at each other ( and stab each other in the back ), so lots of riders hit the street as its more easy to get to and enjoy with no family help, most riders in europe are fully backed by there family taking them to the comps etc taking them to train also, there are only a hand full of familys in the UK with this type of push in trials, as i am sorry to say the family thing is not as strong in the UK as it is in lets say France etc.

so to sum it up we are not in any way like the rest of europe and it hard to ask us to measure up to them..

thanks Dave Butler

My opinion is that we have good riders who want to win comps and we have ones who dont give a damn about comps. Also if you look at the rest of europe there riders are hooked on trials and trials only, then if you look at our there on trials for a bit, then bmx for a bit so they only end up riding street which leads to the likes of riders like danny mac and more who are amazing on street but not as strong on the comp side of trials. Which ends up with a country of street trials riders against a country of comp riders.

But hey thats my opinion.
