Considering A Freehub Over Ffw

Hi all,

I have been considering switching to a freehub over my FFW setup on my stock.

Currently running Meta TCS 170mm cranks with their supplied bash. Echo 135mm fixed rear hub with 16t (spin on) and a Tensile 18t FFW.

I am wondering if there are any real advantages to switching over and what issues I may have with the bash and replacing the front sprocket. Would there be any spacing issues or a problem with the cranks? I'd also rather not run a tensioner if I can help it.

Any input would be most welcome. Lemme know if there's anything else you'd need to know about. Thank you!

Hi all,

It's all down to personal preferance. If you were talking about a mod, I'd say move to FFW purely for better weight distribution. But it doesn't really make a difference on stock. There shouldn't be any spacing issues but for better peace of mind you should have a quick measure up. Other than that, there are no other real problems/issues to think about. It's all down to you.

EDIT: It seems as though I'm a retard, as Im read the thread wrong haha.

Hmm, well there're no real differences in things I could suggest. A bash and a sprocket would fir for sure, you'll need to run aa tensioner though, unless you get a half link chain, and even then you may still need one.

Hope that's finally cleared that up lol/

The FFW system is best with a sprung tensioner due to the freewheel (doing the old tighty loosey thing and) not spinning central. Whereas a freehub doesn't do that as bad by far.

You can also get away with not using a bash guard with a freehub.

Sprocket change is way less hassle on the hub. Also the choice of gears without buying a new hub.

Chain alignment (pro2) can be adjusted without having to dick about with bb axle lengths.

No trouser eating.

Probably a few more.

I'd always use a Pro2 now, they're so stiff and the engagements feel really strong and notchy which I love. (I'm wierd though, I can't use 72ep ffw, they don't feel notchy/solid enough, I can only use Tensiles).

I'm the same, but not as bad as you. Like a King feels dirty to me, because you don't feel it engage. Whereas an Eno feels fine.
