Need Some Advice Please

Hi, just need some advice so i thought this would be the best place to ask!

Grandsons's 14 and wants a trials bike, it'll be his first one, i don't know anything about them or anyone who does.

Anyway we've been looking on ebay and there's nothing near enough to actually be able to check out before paying so it'll be by carrier, just so he doesn't get ripped off (i'm bidding he's paying) can anyone give me some advice on this bike please. A manufactured bike i could check out reviews etc but wouldn't know where to start with this one!

Also any idea what it would go for, is worth!

In fact any advice on a first bike at all would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

AS HE IS 14 I WOULD RECOMMEND A MOD BIKE IE 20 INCH WHEELS, TO BE HONEST YOU WOULD NEED TO GIVE US A BUDGET OF HOW MUCH MONEY HE HAS ETC BUT ONZAS WHICH CAN BE BOUGHT FROM SUPERCYCLES ONLINE ARE NORMALLY A GOOD PLACE TO START, ALSO CHECK OUT PINKBIKES.COM YOU WILL FIND SECOND HAND BIKES ON THERE HOPE THIS HELPS

TO MODERATOR SORRY FOR TYPING IN CAPS. MY CAPS LOCK WONT COME OFF

as it's his first bike, i recommend buying 2nd hand the bikes generally take alot of beating whilst learning, it will also be cheaper and if the bike has been well looked after then it will require very little parts maintenance for a while... have a look on the for sale section on this site or ebay. my msn is nickems@hotmail.co.uk if you want some more help (Y)

Buying second hand is the way really, it means you can pick up a dirt cheap bike, but it will have a super spec, and depriciate less if he decides to sell. All the Onza full builds on www.tartybikes.com and this year it looks like theyv'e got it right! The spec's are pretty good and the prices are very reasonable, however most riders, will upgrade the Onza's as they go along to make them easier to ride, and this can get pretty expensive.

I would say look out on here, as some bargin bikes come up! I'll be selling my top spec KO bike for about £300 soon, but there are loads of bikes out there which will suit your grandson. I would stay away from that bike you listed. Look for a good quality frame (ie. the frames on tarty), the most durable brands are the echo, zoo, adamant, etc. With companys like koxx and monty selling light weight competition frames which genrally tend to be a bit snap happy)

What size is he looking at getting a mod bike 20" or a stock bike 26"

EDIT: and how much money has he got to spend?

How tall is he? If he is quite tall he might like a 26 inch bike. But again its all down to budget and if you about £500 then i would recomend the lastest Ashton bike. Which can last for ever as far as i can work out. Also if he dosnt take to trials ridding then it will be easy to resell!

Thanks guys, haven't been able to post an answer 'til now, just been getting errors, sorted now it seems.

As to checking on the for sales on here, we have! all part bikes at the moment or way too expensive for a first trials, as said it'll take a few knocks while learning so he doesn't really want to go over the £200 or thereabouts for now.

From reading the posts on here looks like a 20" mod is what he wants.

Nikkkkks he'll most probably take you upon that offer of help, thanks.

I'll send him the link and sign in to this forum and he can take it from there.

Thanks again guys...Appreciated!

For £200 the best bet you have is looking for a mint condition 2006 T-Pro with dual magura brakes, I sold mine a while back for £150, there really solid starter bikes and a great platform for progressing, just keep an eye out on here and post up if you have a bike in mind and need any advise, as to wether its a good first bike or not, because there are some bikes to stay wayy clear of, eg. the old missions, which had funny headtube sizes, and some of the older stock montys which used funny sized wheels etc.
