Is It Illegal To Cycle Drunk?

I think it's kinda police descretion? As in they could find something to do you for if they wanted (lights, reflectors, drunk and disorderly etc).

But it makes playing drunken shark attack along the way alot harder :(

EDIT: I once rode head on into a lampost when drunkenly riding home

Thought a friend and I were going to get done for riding through Newcastle drinking alcoholic beverages in the form of free glasses of rum and coke. Riding home later that night was probably the sketchiest thing I've done that wasn't a trick, that involved a bike. Didn't really know the way, and was fairly loose. Brakeless too. Ideal!

Yes it is illegal. If the police stop you whilst riding your bike and they determine your drunk, then they can charge you, It's not drink driving, it's something similar, like riding a bike in an unfit state or something.

The Licensing Act 1872 makes it an offence to be drunk in charge of a bicycle (or any other vehicle or carriage) on a highway or in a public place.

Are you from Newcastle or were you visiting??

Cycling whilst drunk is great fun, pedaling flat out dodging everything that comes your way, hopping curbs. Nothing better!

For added fun* do it with no lights.

*risk

I guess living on a small island probably makes this more viable though, I've never been pulled over at night when on my bike.

Yeah, mine was sans lights. Felt alright for the most part, just when I had to think quickly about stuff it got weird.

I remember trying to trials up my university house' staircase on my trials bike drunk. I think I 5'ed it ALOT.

Also my friend was living in whistler and was walking back from a night out, and it was a long walk. But then he found a bike which he nicked and rode drunkenly back to his house, laughing all the way.

Now that's much more sensible, over here the consequences are slightly more serious. You go to court, have your license taken away and aren't allowed to ride/drive any form of transport involving wheels (literally - roller skates, skateboard etc). My mate got done for it and had to sell his trials bike because legally he was no longer allowed to ride it. If he got caught, he'd have to go to jail for a year or something like that.

That might be the case where you're from, but certainly not in the UK.
