Ciguena_dreamer
You need to hold the grinder toa 60-90 degree angle to the rim and push on hard while moving the grinder quickly in spaces of about 3 inches

tvee rider
Files dont make some things smooth but if you hold them at an angle they will grind your rim.

JamesMilburn
Use machinery man. Its much quicker. Angle grinder or mouse sander itll be much quicker and you may come out with better results

Jitters
Yes, as stated above, there must be some kind of technique or material that is way off base. Thin pipe cutting disc or stone on a grinder works wonders in no time. I've ground several of my rims, stock and mod, with great results. Some better than others, but live and learn. Not that difficult, really.Step 1: Read forum wiki(s) on this subject.Step 2: Watch video(s) included with this subject.Step 3: Experiment with pressure(s) and angle(s) as suggested.Step 4: Avoid sandpaper(s), file(s), your mum's nail file or other element(s) that yield weak results, seriously.Step 5: Enjoy various poses of robot.Good luck, you have 70 microns of material left, so you can't really screw up a new set of rims in one more go. =)
MadManMike
Grinds are not required anyway, disc brakes run fine without them

Spektrum
I just used a rotary wire brush head with my drill and worked down the paint. Took around 20 minutes (first time grinding ever) but the result was a nice light/ medium in some areas grind with only a drill and $4.00 pad attachment.
