terry26rims
my new 16t freewheel has arrived this morning and it's a 1/8 size, my current chain is smaller and obviously i have to go and buy a 1/8 chain, but does my 22t chainring need changing too? eskimo
No, but yes. If you have a new freewheel and new chain, you should really buy a new sprocket for extra smoothness and life.
terry26rims
so i can get away with not stretching the bank too much and buy the chainring next week. there isn't 1/8 specific chainring then?
eskimo
Not in 22t size i don't think. 3/32" seems to be standard in MTB due to gear changing. I just said about using a new chainring to prevent uneven wear. If it's already fairly new it'll be fine. But that's what i would do.
