Bol Maaaaaaing
I am realy having trouble with side hops at the moment, I cant get them right at all. When ever I try I can only get the front wheel on what Im trying to hop, and the other wheel misses all together. Is it because Im hopping on the same side as my foward foot? What is the best tactic to doing it?Also, Do I want to get a 26"?I have a CZAR 20" at the moment and dont know if I want to swap for a 26"26"s seem to be able to do more (What Ive seen in vid's) and looks like they can go further and higher, is it true?Or should I just stick with my CZAR?Cheers for any help,Joe
Revolver
What side you do it doesn't matter. If you get your front wheel on, lean into it and pivot the back wheel on, job done! What does 'Bol Maaaaaaaing' mean anyway? SkiLLz
I can't side hop either even though i can hop up high on the spot. As for you going to 26" it all depends on what you like, plenty of people are as good on 20" as others on 26" so that doesn't make a difference. But it has no meaning what so ever.I can't side hop either even though i can hop up high on the spot. Paperclip
I struggled at sidehops at the start, I found riding with someone else at my level who also was learning them helped me get my head around how to do them, once you have learnt the basic's of this move its then down to how much you push this move. however there are many riders out there who choose not too do sidehops and bace most of there riding on taps and up to back's.also the idea of stock getting you higher is silly, however try one out see what you think, stocks big and numb# so you can get it up ok size stuff there easyer to tap and nice to gap. but mod's all flicky like and easy to throw around. rider picks his bike on what he feels best on, even if you like mod but can go bigger on stock. Paperclip
I got a question about side hops too (Front wheel first)How many people lock their front brake when they land the front wheel on the object?MAttdepends what your landing on, most riders near me go to two wheels however if its a rail or rock sometimes go to front, locking the front brake is good to make sure you stop if you need, however can also make it harder to land the sidehop, if you sidehop to front wheel you can also roll forward, if you land on the corner i.e not making it up the wall however still holding on the wall you have a chance to correct your self and roll foward -however with the brake locked you reduce the chance of correcting your self. there are also a number of riders who dont even cover there front brake in a sidehop these tend to be mostly street riders however it dose work. you learn to side hop they way you feel right! , even if you learn with your front brake locked on and then when you get better move on to trying new styles of the move. hope ive slightly helped Edited June 27, 2009 by Seabasss

Look at Tunni he sidlehops the wrong foot foward and look how deformed his tucks are.It wont effect you too much, but as Connor Powell said a while back in another thread, you will feel alot more comfortable and you will be able to go higher. I have trouble balancing with it foward! Mind you I have not done any practice with that foot.
