Simon2009
Looking more closely at the sort of riding I will be doing when I get a bike, I am pretty much surrounded by woods etc. Although my intention was to try some more urban spots chances are I will end up riding more off road within the trees and woods but with a little urban riding thrown in to the mix.Is it better to go for a 26" and make the most of riding the concrete stuff the best I can or go for a 20" or vice versa.Basically, is a 20" more adaptable to both types of riding or is the 26"?And, if a 26" is better, any recommendations? IFallOffLots
26 will be better for off-road, the larger footprint will give you more traction and stability across uneven terrain.
pogo
Also a 26 will have less rolling resistance as the radius of the wheel is larger. I think.
aener
Doesn't matter. If the bike doesn't adapt to the situation, you will.
Mark W
26 will be better for off-road, the larger footprint will give you more traction and stability across uneven terrain. The 'footprint' would be pretty similar to a 20" tyre of the same width though? I can't imagine it'd be that different. Also a 26 will have less rolling resistance as the radius of the wheel is larger. I think. It's not really rolling resistance, it's just that a larger diameter wheel can roll over rough terrain better.AAAAAAAnyway, for what you want a stock would probably make more sense.
