James 24/7 trials
Hi, i bought a new eno freewheel for the front, went to put it on and theres a gap between the freewheel and the crank arm and i can see the thread where it twists on. Not sure if this is ment to be like that or not. Is there some sort of washer or spacer to go inbetween.Need a quick reply please.Regards James
Sidehop Stuart
- Freewheel may have not been tightened all the way on- gap for a bashring
Borat
Have you crossthreaded it?If not and it is all straight, carefully and without much pressure at all slow/slightly pedal. See if it threads on anymore.
N.Wood
Probably gap for the bash, if so its not a problem.

Duncy H
I think I know what you mean, have the cranks been run with a bashring, if they have they could probably need a spacer put in them along with the freewheel.Edit: not quick enough Edited June 23, 2009 by Duncy H

See if it threads on anymore. Its not cross threaded. I have tightened it up untill it stops but have tightened it just incase i need to get it off and theres a 2mm gap between the fw and crank arm, will this just close up or will i not. Does it need a spacer or washer or anything.James

Please let me know as i dont want to make any mistakes as i wont be able to get it off again.JAMES
Muel
It's not fine at all! The freewheel is supposed to tighten up against the crank arm, not the side of the ISIS splines.Don't tighten it on, get a proper spacer for it.I did once grind down and Echo 6061 crankarm to solve this though. (None of the thread, just the shoulder that stuck out beyond the threads and the ISIS splines.
Mark W
Yeah, it'd be worth getting a little spacer for it just to make sure. The freewheel's supposed to butt up against something, 'cos otherwise the force you're putting through the freewheel is only really being stopped by the extractor tabs, instead of the whole freewheel body being supported. When you pedal it's going to want to tighten up and close that gap, so it might just f**k the tabs/freewheel body itself. Be a shame to waste a pretty expensive freewheel for the sake of a little washer
