peggysue
hi, ive just recieved my gusset tank chain today , how ever once fitting it on any pressure when i pedal causes the chain to lift off the teeth on the rear freewheel and skip like mad.i have a middleburn 22tooth chainring up front, tryall 108.9 freewheel on back and a sprung chain tensioner with a single jockeywheel on it. its all lined up correct and the chain ring and freewheel have good teeth on them.have a bought the wrong chain? its 3/16 size , and really chunky, maybe its not compatable????? Maladie
Chain skipping ..? I've never heard of that. You sure it's not your hub?
peggysue
no its not a half link chain and the freewheel is fine... i got a friend to slowly pedal with the front brake dragging to find where it was skipping and as the chain rolls onto the freewheel at the back it begins to lift off then it will pop back on before it reaches the top of the freewheel. almost like 2 very stiff links rolling over the teeth. (but there not stiff lol... happens constantly).i got no idea really ... everything is setup great and nothing is worn.im thinking of sending the chain back and buying the kmc kool chain , this is slightly thinner , but i hope more compatable???????? Luke_zoo
Or stiff links on the chain could be the problem.

Can't think of the words to explain it.Not enough chain wrap around the cog/freewheel.
2hammered
don't know weather you have sorted it yet or not but the easiest way to tell if its your chain would be to take it off and wrap it all around your freewheel and then you will see if it sits right ! Ali C
It could do. Can't think of the words to explain it.Not enough chain wrap around the cog/freewheel.Bingo, that's probably the problem.the single wheel tensioner is pushing down and reducing the wrap on the rear cog.....ideally you want the chain to wrap AT LEAST half of the cog, but the more the better. Dual wheel tensioners are better for this, if you have an old mech, pop that on and see if it skips then.
peggysue
thought i'd let people know how this problem went on....... basically i went and bought a kmc kool chain a standard size and tried that before buying anything else. unfortunately the problem still persisted. the idea of not enough chain wrap around the freewheel was next on my list . my friend gave me an old shimano duralliere and wella! it worked. so i decided to buy a double chain tensioner. it came yesterday , its the tensile one with the gold jockey wheels...... now however , although its setup perfect it seems to make abit of racket when i pedal. bit like gears when their not lined up correct. i cant work out whats up with it.... its lined up perfect, its the long arm version which is what i needed, the hanger on the frame is stright, the chain is not rubbing on the inner cage the chain passes through, and the top jockey wheel does not touch the teeth on the freewheel. why does it sound like this? god knows!!!any help much appreciated.....
