BTR_Vince
I'm taking my bike (MAD Phase 1.2) in to the shop to change its 8 gear speed to a single gear, what is the ratio I need? I usually ride with it in gear 3, what ratio is that? I'm not too good with the specs and things on bikes. I have to be in the shop in 10/15 minutes so all help is welcome!EDIT: The guy was also saying something about how many teeth it must have etc.....? imhereithink
Just count the teeth on the 3rd gear sprocket, then buy that sprocket in single speed form. Or what i did a couple of years ago was split the gear casset and just fit the 3rd gear sprocket
Oli P
Iv got a Phase 1.3 and I went to single speed and I use a 18 tooth on the rear and the standard 22 on the front. Have a look on the casset and it should say on the gear you are using what it is or you can just count.
BTR_Vince
Yeah thats what I told the guy over the phone now but he said that he wont be able to get that size... I can maybe ask him to split it...
Oli P
It is very easy to do it yourself and it will allow you to get the right gear, I am sure if you get stuck someone will help on here.
eskimo
If the hub is HG Shimano Spline compatible you shouldn't have a problem getting a rear cog to suit. Something along the lines of:22/1820/1618/15Give or a take a tooth on the rear.
BTR_Vince
OK I just came back from the shop now and the guy says he will get a new chain, hub and sprocket. The chain will be a KMC chain - any good? The hub will be a Joyteck hub - any good? And he doesn't know what sprocket he can get yet. kona1991
I'm slightly confussed as to why you'd need a new hub? All you'd need to run s-s is some spacers? Or buy a DMR/ Gusset conversion kit?
BTR_Vince
Something about there being a screw on sprocket and a different kind of sprocket...
MadManMike
Unfortunately a bike shop has just cashed in on your lack of knowledge. All you need is a DMR single speed kit.
BTR_Vince
Unfortunately a bike shop has just cashed in on your lack of knowledge. All you need is a DMR single speed kit.I see...But fortunately I'm getting that kit, plus a new hub and chain for only £15 more than that kit. And its being done for me.Also seeing as I'm in South Africa it would cost quite a bit to transport it all the way down here. But thanks for pointing it out anyway.
