Dodgey Places And Scarey Stories.

A couple of years ago we had the Aristok factory - they famously made tights and stockings, but also did a couple of other clothing too.

The factory shut down god knows how many years ago (1961?) and we occasionally went in there to generally f**k about.

The lights in one part of the building worked on a timer - the light would stay on for about 3 minutes until they all went off and the switch would have to be pressed again. However nobody actually realised that at the time.

So we walked into the stairwell and pressed the switch - we all ran up the stairs and into one of the rooms....then 'click' and all the lights went off.

It was in the middle of the building and no windows or any sort of light could get into it - we had to hold onto the hand rails on the stairs and follow it all the day down to the ground floor where we could press a switch again - it took us a good hour or so to find it.

I went in there twice, the last time we found a big room with a HUGE coat hanger rack full of old jackets. We just used to stand on them and push each other the length of the building.

We did that for a while and we just sat around talking - suddenly there was a massive crashing sound a few rooms down from us, we absolutely shit it and ran out there.

God knows what it was, never found out. Though we had been in that room for about 3 hours - the only way to get to that room would be go through the one we were in.

Finally, part of the building was burnt down and then it was completely demolished in 2002.

LOL the the OP. Baby coffins and bloodbaths.

Erm, I used to paint an old chemical factory where I used to live. Just abandoned like the Marie Celeste one day years ago. Log books half filled out, peoples' coats over the backs of chairs. It was like one day everyone just got up and walked out. The place was huge though, dozens of buildings all with different chemicals and stuff. Really weird. Eerie as f**k. Got ripped down and made into houses now, but I used to go there with a few cans of Belton on a weekend. Proper f**king weird.

Back in January '08 a murder happened in the house about 100 metres from my house of a little old lady named Georgina Edmonds, that was all over the news and the murderer's still not been found, so I guess that's pretty scary. The murderer tortured the little old lady for her bank card pin, she gave him a fake one and he left after murdering her, as there was CCTV found of him attempting to withdraw money from an ATM machine in Tesco's, because of him being shown on CCTV an E-fit was created of him and it came to light that both myself and my mum had seen a man almost identical to the E-fit walking down our lane a few nights before with a heavy duty torch and a dog. I suppose what's scary is that it could have been my house he decided to break into...

When I was a little younger I used to venture down into these old army barracks with groups of friends in Hilsea woods; these tunnels were often laiden with used needles and such. There was no lights and so in the winter evenings when we'd go there it was always pitch black and so you couldn't see, if you weren't careful then the wooden flooring would break under the weight of people standing on it, and you'd fall a few feet. Obviously, there was rumours of ghosts and such that would roam the tunnels and so one night we decided to stay down there; there were about 20 of us and we all sat round this fire by an old abandoned train line just outside the tunnels and at about 11pm we went inside. It was freezing and people were taking photos, so each time the lights on the cameras flashed everyone screamed at the shadows. I don't think anyone slept that night, but I never went back, I've seriously never been anywhere so freaky in my lifeee.

On Google Images there are a few pictures of the old tunnels:

I wouldn't know where to start! A room full of baby coffins? Human tissue samples? Ossuaries full of bones and skulls? Unfortunately (perhaps) none of what I've found or seen is particularly unusual or wierd - rather it's all explainable and not really mysterious. Sometimes people read stuff into a location that's not accurate. For example speculating that loony asylums were hell houses and that a chain on a wall in an old factory must've been a torture device. It's bollocks - just watch a soap if you want drama. True, there's odd stuff out there, but most of the time there's a simple explanation.

That's not to say I don't have stories, just that they're maybe not that exciting!

Love this thread.

That pic of American Adventure of the rapids is soo interesting!! Shame I never actually went before it was closed!

I remember once me and two older friends, 1 boy 1 girl, we were on our bikes around some woods and not far a way a jeep pulled up, 2 people got out and we shouting/calling at us to get in the car....we just dropped our bikes and hid behind the bushes. They kept shouting for us to come but obviously we didn't. I ust have been only 8-10 or something, whilst the girl was probably atleast 13, so when they decided to give up and drive off she read their numberplate and when we got home my dad phoned the police and we told them what happened.

More stories people, I love these abandoned places.

What I find just as interesting as some of the weird places are the rumors that surround them, much like the satanists and the dripping vats of blood like the OP stated.

My story isn't half as interesting, but back in my school days some friends and I used to uncover a well hidden wooden door of sorts that lead into some tunnels that, at one point, used to run under a good portion of the city in Savannah, Georgia (US). We'd climb down a rusty old ladder and make our way into a larger room where we'd set up camp and drink beer for a while and tell stupid scary stories. Good fun. The tunnels are mostly blocked off, but they were apparently used for all kinds of trading and ammunition storage. Rumors had it that pirates used to hole up in there and go about their business to avoid the law. Lots of ghost stories too, but never gave them too much credit. Shame we never took a camera.

Some of those pics above are pretty cool! Looks like fun adventuring to be had :)

Thieves wood round here is preety terrifying at night. All the Doggers go in there an the like so it's a no no to treck up there. A lad I work with went up regularly to throw stuff at them, while he was out his car they slashed 3 of his tyres and he was stuck there.

He rang his dad to come and fetch him at 2 in the morning, can imagine what his dad said when he went to fetch him, not believing he went up there to taunt them....

The pub across the road from my house used to be abandoned and one day me and a mate ventured inside through a smashed window. Was preety cool inside to have a look round an it was cool to look around and look what items where left and stuff. Bit creepy but it was cool at the time...

We used to climb into an abandoned cinema up in town, the window was about 8 foot off the ground but luckily there was a wall and a makeshift ladder next to it lol was wicked fun! We wrote on all the walls and drank and stuff in there and just generally explored! All the seats in the screen room where still in there and the lights still worked and everything! If you went into like the reception area there was a big window that you could look out of into the street, had to keep away from it though 'cause the police came if they saw us there! On one of the first times we went in there, there was this really dodgy punk bloke just loitering around and he gave us like a guided tour! thats how we found out all the lights and stuff still worked in there!

There was a basement entrance too that we used to go into that led all underneath the cinema with loads of rooms and stuff and ended up in the reception area of the shutdown casino which was joined to the cinema. All the doors leading off the reception were heavily sealed up though so we didn't really get any further. All of that got knocked down though :( think a Tesco is being built there now :( Really had some fun times in that place!

Also in the local park there used to be a hole with a lid that had a big tunnel underneath it which used to lead to the basement of a bakery that was built there! Was pretty scary seen as we were only in infants/junior school when we found that! Thers a gym built on top of it now :(
