Security

Well I was recently practicing on some nice rocks (sculpture) around 12 at night, however there were several signs that said you must get off and walk your bike (the rocks were right next to a bike path). So the parks security people come over to me and my dad (no one in NY rides trials), and starts harassing me about riding my bike on the rocks. However i was doing no damage to them, if anything my wheels were wiping the dust off not to mention its 12 PM at night and no one is around. So they leave us alone and we decide to make our way out, which was about 200 feet or so to the exit. Along the way im practicing my trackstands going no faster than .5 miles an hour (im still a beginner) And the same parks people pull around again and the guys starts harassing me again EVEN THOUGH we were infront of the sign that says dismount your bike and I was trackstanding. The officer, not even a cop but like a parks keeper threatens to give me a summons even though im clearly not violating any of the rules. I was infront of the sign that says dismount your bike and i was only trackstanding.

After this event i realized security is an actual problem for me, as there are few good riding spots in manhattan, the one i was kicked out from was my favorite. I was wondering if anyone here had any advice on how to deal with security, or if there are any legal loopholes or ways that i can get out of being brought in, in the event that something like this happens again. This one incident pissed me the f*ck off and i just wanted advice from others who may have been in a similar position.

Yeah, just deal with it, I'd say. Do as they insist and roll back another day or find another spot, y'know? Most of those boneheads aren't worth the hassle you can get into. The proper trick is to find the bored guards that want some entertainment. Usually in the mornings when there's nothing going on.

Anyway, good luck!

You don't want to piss security off, it just makes life harder in the future as they're more likely to call the police and waste your time with stop & searches (or whatever you have in the 'States) when you haven't really been doing anything wrong except perhaps trespassing.

Be polite. As long as you're polite and completely reasonable with them there's f*ck all they can do really. Apologise and roll of, eight times out of ten they'll feel a bit of a twat, they expect confrontation.

I'm always reasonable with them, just say I understand what they're saying to me, which is usually pretty fair anyway, then just explain that I'm not trying to damage anything and if it does happen then it was an accident!

They're usually alright after that, and sometimes don't even bother me again!
