Luke Rainbird
Reach is measured from the centre of the BB shell to the centre of top of the headtube
JD™
I always thought reach was BB to Handlebars? Thought it was a variable you could change with different stem setups. I could be wrong, obviously, but that's just how I've always done it.
Luke Rainbird
Changing stems will adjust the distance between the contact points on a bike, the reach is more used for comparing frames to each other. If it included stems you'd have to use a certain geometry stem to give a direct comparison and you'd be back to square uno.For example, looking at the Ozonys XS26 on Tarty gives:Wheelbase: 1085mmChainstay Length: 383mmBB Rise: 25mmHead Angle: 72 degreesCentre of BB shell to top centre of head tube: 680mm (26.75")That final measurement is the reach
JD™
Yea, I just seem to have been using it in a different way - i.e. with this frame, what stem do I need to get to have the same reach as my old frame? As in to get a common ground to make the switch less weird.EDIT: accepting yours is the 'right' way, that is Edited June 16, 2009 by JD™
Luke Rainbird
Yeah it all helps to work out setups and stuff when switching things around
