just got hold of a second hand echo urban... gets me back out riding ... however the top left brake mount on the rear of the frame (4 bolt mount) has stripped its threads. i did not even tighten it much before it went. sounds like it was knackered in the first place. god knows how im gonna fix it. basically im not going to have a rear brake till the threads are sorted. anyone got any ideas?

thanks karl

Use the tap and die kit, to re-thread the hole to a slightly bigger bolt size and it should be fine, or another way could be to use some metal compound, then screw the bolt in then leave it to settle, then it should be fine it was for me it worked brilliantly.

there are about a couple threads at the bottom left . its gripped them but i dont dare tighten it no more . it feels soft as if the last threads are gonna give. what size tap would i need ? what the next size up ? and where would i get them from?

thanks

I wouldn't tap it bigger if I were you, it's a right pain in the arse. You need bigger bolts, you need to file the clamps out, you need bigger booster spacers, file the booster out.

Just get it helicoiled, it's so much easier.

I'd also make sure you have bolts that are as long as possible. Get ones that are too long, then cut them down until they fit, I've stripped mounts before from having bolts too short, you need at least 6/7mm of thread inside the frame, I've currently got about 12mm.
